hallo everyone.thanx for taking time to read this thread and i hope you will help..am currently pursuing MEDICINE degree in a third world country which is english speaking(in AFRICA)..i will be graduating as a doctor in 2 months time.i have alwayz wanted to be a clinical practioner in the US..I realized a long time ago that the USMLE will b a treacherous, time consuming and expensive route for me..thus of late,i have shifted all my energies into enrolling for an accelerated BSN nursing program :nurse: in a US university bt unfortunately this is as far as it goes:(.......is this possible or rather how easy will it be for me to enrol?..are there any universities in the US which can actually recognise a medical degree from an African university?...how will i go round the GPA scores section?.........is it a must for me to do the pre-requissites given that most of them were covered in my medical school curriculum?

You really need to discuss this with the university you plan on doing your training. Also be aware of retrogression and that you may have to leave once you have completed training and OPT (if you apply for it) There is no way at the moment that you can AOS and stay in the US, retrogression has been ongoing since Oct 06 and demand and people waiting in the queue is much higher than actual visas allocated annually
Thanks alot silverdragon102......am actually from Kenya...bt am still abit confused:confused: on the issue of which University to do my training....do you actually know any university that would listen to me and give me a chance?....i thought that states like Florida with a huge nurses:nurse::nurse: shortage would not mind hiring you even if you are a foreigner bt you've done the nursing in the US and passed your boards........thanx again in advance
It doesn't matter if you do your training in the US or not you will still be affected by retrogression and will still take many years to go through the process and be able to stay and work in the US.
thanx once more Silverdragon102.......my intention is not to work in the US forever or become its citizen...i just want to work if given a chance for like 10yrs,get the necessary experience and come back to help my fellow kenyans who really need the proper health care......nurses are the backbone of most health systems in the developing world....and i hope one day i will be able to achieve this dream....
