Kids are amazing.

Yes I am biased since I have pretty much worked in Peds my whole career, and yes I do have a pretty cool kid, but regardless - they amaze me nearly every day.

Last week I had a 3 year old save a younger sibling. Parents and kids were outside. They have an underground pool with a fence around it. Parents both think the other one is watching the kids - Yep you guessed it. The 15month old gets past the fence and falls into the pool. The three year old starts yelling for parents and is able to grab ahold of the younger kid who was floating face up in the pool. Parents hear the yelling and come running.

Luckily the 15month is fine - but was admitted for obs. for 12 hrs since he was vomiting water when EMS arrived.

Yes the 3yr old didn't know exactly what was wrong, but by yelling saved his younger sibling. I'm happy that he didn't fall in reaching for the 15month old.

You're right. Kids can be amazing.

I once cared for a boy of about eight who'd saved his little brother from drowning in a lake. When he reached his little brother, he realized that he didn't know how to hold his brother and swim to shore. So he dove down, lifted his brother up on his shoulders, and walked to shore with his head beneath the water, leaving him unable to breathe.

In the process, he swallowed some water and was in overnight for observation.
