I was in my second semester of nursing school when I was caught was caught in possession of alcohol while underage. My school found out and I was kicked out of the nursing program. I have above 3.0 GPA, but when I reapplied to my the nursing program at my school (state school in Indiana), I wasn't accepted.
Should I try to apply to my school's nursing program again? I've looked at other state schools, but not all of my credits transfer. Do you think that those schools will also reject my application because of the Minor Consumption? Would the situation be any different if I applied to a private school?
Some schools REQUIRE that prereqs be taken at that school in order to be able to get into their nursing program. I'm also considering just going the way of a community college or Ivy Tech, because I'm worried no other school will accept me.

So I just want to clarify: your school dismissed you, you reapplied and were denied acceptance, and are asking if you should reapply again? What is the timeframe here (how long ago did this happen)? Were there charged brought up (arrest, some sort of sentence, community service, etc)?
If your school/nursing program has a policy that you have to have a clean record, and you don't, then I would not bother. At least not anytime soon. You may need some time to let things smooth over, and to redeem yourself.
Also, you need to see if your past (or present) is going to prevent you from becoming licensed.

honestly if i were you I would just look into applying at another school.
Try to stay out of trouble and keep a clean record especially if you really want to
be a nurse. It maybe all fun now but you will cry later. I have a criminal record
and trying to be a nurse with ANY criminal background is very HARD..take it from me,
you don't want to go down that road.
Yes, you are correct. The nursing program dismissed me and I reapplied the next semester. By that time I had served my community service for the misdemeanor, but the board still has access to my records.
I'm worried that if my school rejected me because of this mark on my record, then other schools will reject me to.

Maybe you could volunteer your free time instead of just doing the "bare minimum." Get creative and volunteer somewhere to show you're dedicated and SERIOUS; serious that you will NOT make a mistake like this again! If I were the one considering you for school, I'd want to see you making an effort to clean up your act before I gave you a second glance. No body wants an irresponsible nurse (would you??). They don't want to waste their time putting someone through their program who is dishonest and isn't safe to practice.

If I were you I would make an appointment to talk with the director of the program. Flat out ask him or her if you have a chance of getting back in. Then you will know where you stand.
