Kentucky NP's

Any Kentucky NP's on here? I'm looking at beginning an FNP program soon (within the next year) and will be moving back to my home state of Kentucky when I get out of the Navy.

-What is it like practicing in KY, since the state requires collaboration with a physician?

-What is the demand for NPs in rural Eastern Kentucky (I would be practicing in the Pikeville area once I graduate/get licensed)?

-What type of salaries are available?

hey i worked up in eastern ky for a while (won't say exactly which town) but it was pretty close to the pikeville. The market as great when i started, has gone down somewhat since then (everybody at the hospital i worked at was going back for their fnp while i was working there) but i would say there are still some jobs, just not as great of ones. I can't speak directly for pikeville since i was an hour or so away though. the need there might be greater.

Collaboration can mean everything or nothing. I live in a collaborative state but effectively work solo. We've spoken maybe four times including my recruitment, a CME conference and a medical staff conference call.

In the same state, some APRNs have to see the physician at least weekly, pull charts for audit, participate in "supervision," and engage in myriad, time consuming, base tasks.
