Keiser University for Nursing???

Updated:   Published

Hi. I am new to Florida. I am a LVN/LPN with a license from California. The process to to get my license transferred has be a hassle. While looking for jobs, I wasn't finding anything I wanted, but I kept coming across tons of RN jobs. I've made the decision to go back for my RN. I did very poorly in my first years of college (10 years ago) and because of this my overall GPA is so poor that I will not be able to get in to any of the community colleges nursing programs. I did my LVN/LPN through a career college. It was more expensive, but they took me regardless of my previous college experience. I ended up having the top GPA in my class at the career college. Anyway...I'm expecting to have to go to a private/career college such as Keiser as they will take anyone as long as you pay, but I wanted to know if it is a good choice or would I be better off going to the community college and get a degree in health care administration and giving up on nursing. Do hospitals hire graduates from Keiser? Do most local hospitals want bachelor degree nurses instead of associate? Any answers will help!

Thanks!!

I live in Lakeland and I am interested in the Keiser in Lakeland Fl.

Just graduated this past April. What questions did you have?

Congrats! (:

Did you apply having already completed your prereqs? I was confused as to which program I would apply to there? Is it the AS program?

BUMP! I am trying to decide whether or not to attend a community college for an ASN (24 months) or pay 25k more and attend Keiser's accelerated BSN program (16 months...they have just been cleared for this program). My only worry is that I do already have some student debt and worried about their reputation, so was just wanting to get some feedback from people about their experience and ability to find a job after graduating. Thanks so much for any info! :)

I had a great experience with Keiser in Tampa. For me, personally, it was worth to pay the extra to get in and start right away vs having to play the waiting game with a community college and their application process. Keiser in Tampa goes by an interview process ... don't get me wrong, they do have waiting lists if there are a lot of people that apply at once but they do not select students JUST by GPA/TEAS scores. I graduated in December '14, passed NCLEX Jan '15 and was hired on at a hospital and started March '15. When applying to jobs as a new nurse I highly highly highly recommend applying to internship programs within that hospital. You may be tied to a 2yr contract but it will be worth it. If I had the choice between BSN with an extra $25k in debt or ASN I would go with the BSN route ... you'll be done faster with a higher education, you will be more "marketable" when applying to jobs when you can add BSN to your resume, and it will save you TIME not having to go back for your BSN because TIME = MONEY!! ;) In the end you'll find what works best for you and I wish you all the best!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm so glad that you had a great experience at Keiser. I am still up in the air as to which school I'm going to chose but leaning towards Keiser, so it's great to hear that you had a good experience. Thanks again! :)

I've completed my pre reqs at Keiser Orlando. I've had a great experience overall. I'm hoping to start their nursing program this spring. They are well respected by Florida Hospital and complete their clinicals there. They have small class sizes 24 people per class. Accredited by SACS. I get a 25% discount because of my employer plus a academic scholarship. That takes $6,000 off the top. The nursing program itself is about 16,000 inclusive not including any grants or scholarships.

I am looking into the Keiser Flagship location in West Palm beach. As I will be relocating all the way from Pennsylvania. Does anyone have any experience with this location?

This is a long shot since this post is so old but I am trying to find nursing alumni from Keiser. Did you graduate from there? I have some questions.

I am looking to speak to Keiser alumni. I have some questions about the school and would like to speak to someone who has actually graduated from the nursing program. Thanks in advance.

Hi ! I just graduated from KU Orlando ! What questions do you have ?

I am nervous about applying because I am not sure if the school is reputable or just a money maker. Were you able to pass your NCLEX?
