Keiser or Rasmussen College&State Boards

Nursing Students LPN/LVN Students

Published

Anyone graduate (or know someone who did) from or Keiser's LPN Program in FL? Both are listed as having "Provisional" status on the State Board's website. The folks at the state boards won't confirm whether these school's classes will be eligible next year or not. They do recommend seeking a school with "Full Approval". That's fine but the only schools within an hour's drive, that I know I can get into, are Keiser and Rasmussen. PHCC had over 130 applicants for 36 students for their last class! Not great odds.

I'm a little uncomfortable with Rasmussen as I've left 3 detailed messages for the program director. Left a message for Keiser in New Port Richey last Friday still no response regarding whether their students qualify to sit for State Boards after graduation. Any info is appreciated.

Hi, I am in NPR too. The Keiser you are referring to was previously Higher Level Vocational that went out of business. I too called them Monday and have not gotten a call back yet. THey said they are still getting things together and it may take a few days to hear back. I know Keiser is a good school, but expensive!!! Same with in Holiday. LPN was 20k! The year before at PHCC there was 220 apps and 13 got in because they are still working down the "grandfathered in" waiting list people even though they did away with the waiting list. Feel free to PM me.

Where did you hear about this "grandfathered in" waiting list at PHCC? I was told they don't maintain a waiting list and just start a fresh list for each in coming group of applicants. Although, I'm strongly considering the vocational route, I may still try the NET test at PHCC and see how I do. I'm also gonna call their nursing dept and ask what the tests scores gained entry for the January 2009 class. Will let you know if I learn anything worth sharing.

I stopped at Keiser last Fri and saw they are not ready for students yet. Administration folks are just moving in next week. I picked up a catalog and expect to hear from someone next week. To be continued.......

PHCC itself told me. They told me they no longer put people on a list, they have to reapply each year and admission is based on the NET. However, there are still people that have been on the waiting list that have been on it for a few years. So, even though they are not adding anyone NEW to the list, they are honoring the list that they alreadt have. THat is why they only took 12 , the rest on the seats went to the list. That is what they told me.

Back to my original question. Do you know anyone who has graduated from Keiser or LPN programs? It would be nice to have the assurance that one can sit for state boards before laying out 20k.

Glad I found this post!

I was wondering if anyone got any info yet? I left a message for Keiser and am waiting to hear back. I was told that 's program in Holiday is geared to those already in the health field, and completing it will not allow you to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam, so I am not even considering it. Is that the same with Keiser??

I am going to an admissions seminar for PTEC's January class tomorrow (11/19) but it would be nice to stay closer to home, since I live in Holiday.

Hi, i also live in n.p.r and i applied to the phcc lpn class of Jan. 09 and was selected as an alternate. Anyway, I was thinking about ramussen college and I called higher level vocational on Fri still waiting for a call back. These schools just seem skeptical to me. If i dont get contacted by phcc to fill a seat i will just apply to phcc again. Its ALOT cheaper and you are guaranted a good education and your classes do mean something if you ever want to go on. Plus you dont ever have to worry about the school changing their name and vanishing and taking your 20 grand down the drain w/ them. Sorry if i am rambling i am tired. I hope i helped and if anyone has any questions to ask me shoot away! :zzzzz:specs:

rfblovee,

I know what you mean about being skeptical. I'm starting to feel a little better about at least. My daughter is an RN and knows a girl that she works with who received her LPN from Webster (now Rasmussen). The girl, had no problem taking state boards and getting licensed. She's now working on her RN bridge program. PHCC told me that course work at any vocational school isn't really a factor when applying for the RN bridge program, you just need to licensed as an LPN.

Did PHCC tell you you'd have to take the NET again to apply for the next class? Also, I was wondering if you know the NET score that it took at PHCC to gain entrance. I wish you luck getting into January and I'll bet you do. Like you, I'd rather go there but am starting too late in life to let this drag out.

Debi

Hi Debi,

Thankyou, I really hope to get in to:bowingpur. I was devistated when i found out i was on the alternate list. I will have to apply next Jan though b/c i cant do nights in aug:(

The net test score is good for 2 yrs. They are looking for a composite score of at least a 60 to be considered for the program. But they only take the top 36 scores. So the higher you get the better chance you have. I received a total composite score of 81(80 in math and 82 in reading) and that got me on the alternate list. So honestly if you score in the mid 80's to 90's you are safe. The net isnt all that bad either. They have a net study guide @ the phcc bookstore and it is based on what is on the test. It is a really good study guide I think it is $23 but well worth it.

Oh plus in august brooksville is taking 36 students for the day course and npr takes 36 for the nights, so i think that there is a better chance for people in aug b/c in jan only npr is offering a class. Anyway Debi get the study guide and take the net whats the worst that can happen? if you have any ques or need any help just ask me. You are never to old, better to start late than never:D

I have personally graduated from 's LPN program, and I am a fully licensed LPN in the state of Florida. I have the luxury of choice when it comes to my bridge to RN, and I am waiting for Rasmussen's Bridge as I am completely satisfied with the education I have received from Rasmussen.
