In Florida, can a CNA draw blood? I do not see it under the Florida Nurse Practice act. I have heard that CNAs can be trained to do so without a phlebotomy cert. Can you clarify? Also, outside of the CNA scope in the nurse practice act, it says (and I am para-phraising) a RN can delegate a task to a CNA if they feel the CNA is qualified. Would that include EKG? Please let me know from your experiences in LTC or Hosp. Thanks so much, Brenney

Here in Florida, CNA's are licensed. You are issed a CNA license from the Florida Board of Nursing. Scope is narrow, you can do cery basic nursing trasks, vitals, transfers, assisting bathing, eating dressing and the like. I am taking my test soon, but my goal is LPN. Linda

I heard Bayada is not the best agency to work for. I know you dont get any benes doing HH, but my husband takes care of that with his job. Are you paid milage? Is that XX.00 and hour for the time you are with the patient, and is your drive to the next client on the clock too? Tell me how it works with time. I am going to be taking the exam soon, wanted to do it a year ago and then my plans were put on hold. I want to go into home health. Right away. I do not want LTC or hosp. Do you think I can find something in home health with no experience? I have 15 years now as a dental assistant, so I am comfortable with direct care. I hope in the exam I am tested on mouth and denture care.. I know I will have no problems there!! Thanks for any input. Also, I am going to be taking a huge paycut going to NA. As a DA, I am at 15.00/hr and know I wont get close to that. My goal is LPN.

PHCC itself told me. They told me they no longer put people on a list, they have to reapply each year and admission is based on the NET. However, there are still people that have been on the waiting list that have been on it for a few years. So, even though they are not adding anyone NEW to the list, they are honoring the list that they alreadt have. THat is why they only took 12 , the rest on the seats went to the list. That is what they told me.

Hi, I am in NPR too. The Keiser you are referring to was previously Higher Level Vocational that went out of business. I too called them Monday and have not gotten a call back yet. THey said they are still getting things together and it may take a few days to hear back. I know Keiser is a good school, but expensive!!! Same with Rasmussen in Holiday. LPN was 20k! The year before at PHCC there was 220 apps and 13 got in because they are still working down the "grandfathered in" waiting list people even though they did away with the waiting list. oh, I am sorry, I thought you were in florida. ooops! I have been in dental for a long time, so the vitals, hand washing and general patient ethics I know. My BFF is an RN so she is going to help me with some things. Thanks for the info.

well, I have definitly decided on NA, not MA. Thanks for the input. Now, here is another question. I am really wanting to do home health. Do you think it would be out of the question for me to get a home health job as a CNA or do they want only experienced? I am sure it varies but on the whole, what do you think? Have any of you started the CNA route before going on to LPN/RN? :redbeathe Thanks again for the input!

Hi there! Actually, Penn Foster is approved with AMT that after a clinical work extern of 200 hours (through the training program), you can sit for it. It is in their literature and on their (penns) website. I also called AMT to verify. But yes, I was thinking CNA would be better experience.... Thanks for your help!

Hello. I would like to get some opinions here.... Please help me decide what to do. I will be an LPN, just not sure when. I am hanging onto the article posted regarding NAPNES and RUE Ed. forming an LPN online program that allows nurse assts and other non-licensees to complete therory portions online and do clinicals at the hosptial. Rue had little info to give me on the phone because the program is still being developed. The article states it will be ready summer or fall, but who knows..... So, how the article is stated, it says "for nursing aids, medication tech and other unlicensed assistive personal who wish to become LPN's"....... so it looks like they want you to have a medical assisting background of some sort. I am a dental assistant and have been for 14 years now, but I am thinking of either doing the CNA class in case that it is indeed required to get into this online program...... I am also considering an MA program that will allow me to sit for the cert. exam. I think these MA schools are outrageously priced, so upon deep digging, I was able to find out that Penn Fosters Med office asst program will allow you to sit for the RMA. All in all, it will be a little over 700.00. Not bad. and if it is a while until the LPN comes through for me, I can do MA work as I have done DA. Basically, in the meantime, I am trying to see what makes more sence; MA or CNA. Please help. I too called them to find out info, and the girl on the phone was rude and told me nothing except how to get there for an interview with a counselor. I explained I needed to know cost first before I came down there and a little more info to see if it would fit my schedule..... She would not budge. Sounded fishy, so I never went. When they can not tell you the cost or other info, that means that it is outrageous! They want you in person so they can "sell" you. YOu will notice your community college wont do that!!!!

i am sure it is different in all regions, but i was lucky to get an advisor at a local community college to really break down getting into the lpn program here, (tampa bay) ... she gave me these stats from the last starting class: 220 applied 11 got in (the other seats were given to the grandfathered in waiting list applicants that they have done away with, but need to finish giving these people seats that have been waiting 2 years...) there are actually 36 seats the range of composite net scores for the accepted (very lucky) people was 83 being the lowest and 91 being the highest... you needed a 50 composite on the net just to apply, but you better do better than that ... it is competitive but we can do it! get that net study guide and lets take this seriously!!!!! what i am trying to do is not discourage anyone (including myself! ) but advise you to get stats from your college, see exactly how they weigh the net and what they are "looking" for so you can pay that area extra attention...... reading is given a weight of 55%, followed by math 30%, so with that, i better have my reading and grammer skills perfected! check with your school and i recomend teh eri study guide for the net prep. it is tryly easy to follow, especially those of us who have been out of school 15 years! brenney9101:heartbeat

I am changing careers to nursing! I have done pediatric dental hygiene since I was 20, so it is really all I know! LOL!! I have decided to persue the nurse route and im in the process of studying for the NET. I just got back from the library actually:yeah: Wish me luck , I am going to take the NEW in a few weeks. Not sure how how common the mobile anestesia is in your area, but alteast alot of pedodontists here are going to it in lieu of the surgery center here.
