Hello
I am in the process of applying to several nursing schools and am currently taking pre requisites for them. Unfortunately, I just found out I will have to relocate to Chicago. Unfortunate because I had already planned which schools to apply too, and taken those pre reqs. Now everything is up in the air.
I already have a bachelors in Biology. Just taking some psych/nutrition/etc classes to fill in the gaps.
So I'm looking at Lewis University, since it will be a much closer option and one of the requirements is KAT ?
I'm trying to find more information on it, but horribly failing. Does any one have any experience or knowledge of it, so I know how to prepare for the test or what it entails?
The only information I found was on an old thread from 2010
Aug 14, '10 by ndb0001It's an actual test made by Kaplan. Below is a description of the test from the school's website that I am applying to.The Kaplan Admission Exam is a 91-question multiple-choice test which evaluates basic reading, math, writing, and science skills. The Reading section (22 questions in 45 minutes) tests the students' ability to identify the idea and/or purpose of the passage, identify details, and to use inference and logic. The Math section (28 questions in 45 minutes) tests fundamental math, algebra, and problem solving, conversions, operations, ratios, word problems. The Writing section (21 questions in 45 minutes) asks students to identify correct and incorrect sentence mechanics, paragraph logic, and passage development. The Science section (20 Questions in 30 minutes) tests students' knowledge of Physiology in the following areas: Cardiovascular system, electrolytes, gastrointestinal system, immune system, neurology, renal system, hematological system, homeostasis, respiratory system, sensory system.

Does anyone have anything more recent? I'm only worried about the science section- like physiology/bio is fine. Just worried about the chemistry or physics section, if there is one...

Sorry this is a bit late, but hopefully it can still help you. I attend Lewis U's accelerated nursing program. The Kaplan test is 4 sections - math, reading, science, and reading/writing comprehension. Lewis only takes your math and reading section grades into account. So you take the entire test, but they only base admission on the math and reading section. When I took it, I had not taken any science pre-reqs and scored a 25% on the science section! Dismal, but I still got in based on a high reading and math score. I think the score had to be in the upper 70s in those 2 sections. I got the Kaplan Nursing School Entrance Exams guide to study. I think it helped to know what the basic format would be, and to refresh basic math. There was a lot of fractions, decimals, conversions on the test. I took this about a year and a half ago, so double check it's still the same. Once you've taken and passed the test, they work with you to determine what pre-req classes you still need. You need to pass those with a C or better to get into the nursing program. Good luck!

I recently signed up for a KAT test date, I am trying to get into an accelerated program and Lewis University is one of top programs right now, does anyone that currently attends Lewis or has an inside info about the school mind sharing what the accelerated program is like? Im pretty nervous about attending an accelerated program simply because im unsure of what the pace is like and it seems intimidating. Feel free to pm me as well, thanks!

Hi@melc0305. I read your pm but unfortunately because I do not have enough posts yet I could not reply back to you but here is what I sent you, I know it's kind of long and I apologize in advance----
Hi! Thanks so much for the pm.
Do you feel that with the schedule and amount of time that the program is, that it is feasible to have enough time to study and pass the courses and complete the program? also, how many months in are you with the program?
it's seems that there is a lot of commuting and traveling with the clinical and then with the one semester that you said is at the other campus, do you think it is necessary to drive and have a car or is it common for people to car pool? or do they take public transportation? Do they offer on campus housing or do many students commute from home or rent out apartments?
my last question is in regards to the financial aid. because this would be my second degree i know that I will not be able to receive as much government funds but how are you dealing with paying for school? or from what you know, how are other students dealing with paying for school?
And with the professors, classes, schedule, resources, would you overall recommend this program? what would your rating be on a scale from 1-10 so far? i know that I would have to retake my A&P2 class elsewhere this summer since they did not accept the credit from the school that I initially took it at so I just want to make sure that it is worth it.
And how were the pre-term classes for you?
Sorry for all of the questions, Im just really anxious. Thanks again!

hi! i just read your pm, ugh i can't wait until i can get pm privileges on here but my reply was this:
thank you so much for your insight and this helpful information! the car thing is sort of a problem for me but not because i can't get one b/c im sure if it comes down to it ill find a way but rather because I hate driving and on top of that being in school and dorming so close to the city i haven't had a reason to drive so i haven't driven in over a year or so, so that makes me nervous. ill probably end up in the same boat with the loans as well but as you said, there's no other option so i cant complain. and i do plan on retaking that course at a CC if I choose lewis, as much as I dont want to retake it, but thanks again!
Has anyone taken the KAT at Lewis recently? My test is next week I haven't even really looked at the review book yet and I feel nervous because I'm not sure if a week is enough time to prepare =(
Did anyone receive any feedback yet? I was just sent an email that I passed the exam which I took yesterday and I plan on signing up for the informations session!
