Now I'm not a kaplan rep or anything but I know Kaplan reviews questions and tell you that you ought to have reviewed your content before coming for the course( for the classroom course). The person you talked about must have been referring to the Kaplan content review online. Yes, they review from their book. That is not done in class at all. All you do at the class is review of simulated frequently tested nclex questions and do tests to determine where you are and whether ready to sit for nclex, that way, you know your weak areas and study those the more. The kaplan course book is like a reference book. It reviews frequently tested Nclex materials. You probably need to have reviewed your Saunders comprehensive book before going for Kaplan. Kaplan sharpens your critical thinking skills that you need to pass Nclex. It is very very good. I just finished the class on the 6th of this month (April) and made a very high score on the readiness test. And I don't have a single doubt about passing Nclex.
Bottom line, kaplan is excellent and you won't regret it at all. However, you have to know your content before going there. If you have finished your content review like Saunders, yes, go for Kaplan or you feel you know your content, yes, go for it. Some people go for Kaplan first, get their weak areas and focus on those areas, whatever works best for you, but Kaplan is excellent. People say they wasted their money on kaplan because they probably think it's automatic, .."once you do kaplan you will pass nclex"...it's not automatic, I mean, you have to know your content. For the kaplan course book, i think I would probably run mad trying to read that book. If you review their content online with the instructor reading from the book, she goes into much details and explains things that are not in the book and tells you what you need to know in frequently tested areas. That I probaly may not see if reading it alone. So, i don't believe that she just reads through the book. For me reviewing it online is much better than sitting down and trying to read that book. You have 3 months access online afterwards. I hope this helps!!

Hi! Last month, the President of Missouri State Board (I think that what you call it) came to my school and filled us in about the NCLEX. When someone asked her a similar question...."Does a review class help and which one should we take?" She said that she highly recommends taking a review class before sitting for the NCLEX and that she also recommends Kaplan or Drexel.
Also, I have talked to a lot of new grads who said they feel they benefited a great deal by taking the review class. At my school, we take the Drexel. It comes with a 4 day classroom experience with 2 (or 4) weeks of an online class open, to study from.
I don't know if this helps but I would say, that if you have the chance for a classroom experience with an online experience, that would be the way to go.
In any case, best of luck to you...I graduate in May also.:)

I took the Kaplan class --- did it help???? Not sure! I found the class itself not helpful bec all we did was review questions for 6-7 hours and the instructor did not even always go over the rationale. However, the trainer CD and online question bank gave great practice questions. Before I took my exam, I did Suzanne's program using Saunders (another thread) --- I dont know which helped more - Saunders has better rationales in my opinion, but Kaplan's questions were more like the NCLEX to me. I dont know which I would recommend but I passed with 75 questions on the first try --- maybe for me, a little of both helped! I was told by many nurses that doing a variety of questions from a variety of sources will give you a broader base of what may be out there and therefore increase your chances of success.
GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for your input and helpful suggestions. I just posted a thread about whether or not to take Saunders Online or Kaplan....I'm still undecided.
Anybody else have feedback about Kaplan?

KAPLAN is the way to go!! I just took my NCLEX on friday and PASSED it with only 75 questions!! I took it with five girls I graduated with and they passed it with only 75 questions also. KAPLAN was harder than the NCLEX. KAPLAN acutally offers a first time pass money back guarantee and believe me, they are not in the buisness to give people their money back!! Trust me, KAPLAN is the way to go!
