Hi,
I'm a new member to this site but have been a long-time lurker :)
I have a questions specifically about the Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exam. I have to take it in the Fall 2017 semester to get into Nursing school, but I wanted to get a head start on studying for it now...but I'm kind of stumped on how to study for it.
I purchased the Kaplan book and have been reading it over and over. My highest score in the practice exams are in the Mathematics section, and I'm decent in the science section in the cellular biology questions such as about mitochondria, mRNA, etc...the basic stuff (I haven't taken anatomy yet, so I am waiting to learn it in uni before I go too in-depth for studying).
I am really concerned about the writing and reading comprehension part. I never did outstandingly well on the reading comprehension/writing portions on the SAT/ACT and the Kaplan exam seems pretty dang similar to it. I'm awful at making connections with analogies, but I'm a beast at spelling.
I've tried to google it, and it says that there apparently aren't analogies on the actual exam, but the forum post was made years ago. Can someone who has taken the Kaplan exam recently confirm or deny this?
Also, can someone be kind enough to give out some pointers on how to correctly study for the Kaplan exam? :) I need help specifically on analogies (if it applies) and broadening my vocabulary. Thank you to all, and I hope I can make good contributions in this forum in the future :)

This fall I took the Kaplan entrance exam and I found the study book for it was basically useless. It has info in it for many different exams. The reading and writing portion, I would find a reading comprehension book, writing go over grammer, comma placement, inference, etc. Math was my highest score, it's basic algebra- converting fractions & decimals, a couple dosage questions, conversions, & problems. Science was mostly physiology.
Thank you for your response! I have been hearing around the internet that the books made for the Kaplan exam don't match up with the actual exam
So you're saying there weren't any analogy questions on the actual exam? And what do you mean by dosage questions?
No mine and those I have talked to did not have any analogy questions and they had easy medication dosage calculations.
Buyer beware, BSN

So the study aid books by Kaplan for the exam are useless in preparing for the actual exam.
Well this seems to be red-light #1.
What other critical thinking skills can you apply towards the evaluation of this school?
Thank you for this info! If you don't mind, could you give me an example of a "medication dosage" question?
I've only taken introductory biology so far and am awaiting anatomy/physiology and microbiology so I'm unsure of what that means :)

Hello, I am trying to do some research on the Nursing Entrance Exam as well. I have been searching for a book that will help me prepare and do excellent on the exam. What methods would you recommend besides purchasing the book that seems useless according to you guys. Thank you !
