Kaplan Exam

I took the Kaplan exam last week. I took it over a computer, & it was broken down into 4 sections; reading, writing, math, & science. The math was easy, and the test had a link to a basic operations calculator if you needed it. There was mostly percentages, fractions, ratios, & proportions in the math section. The reading was comprehension, & I felt like the passages were a bit long, but not hard to answer questions regarding them. Writing wasn't bad either-- mostly proper word usage, and spotting errors in grammar. The science was tough, & that was the section I studied the most! It was all a&p, so I would suggest you review that.

I actually don't know what is considered a good score on that test because I couldn't seem to find much info regarding it, but at the school I was applying to they required a minimum of 60% and I scored an 82%. I was a little disappointed since I studied for like 6 days straight.. I studied a&p review books and I bought the NLN pre-nursing entrance exam study book, & I felt like the math was almost exactly the same as on the test.. Hope the info helps, and good luck!

I took my Kaplan test in may, as was already said, it was in 4 parts. There are total 90 questions. If you're good in English then you will do good on that part. The math was very basic. Know your fractions, ratios percentages etc. As far as the science goes, it is pretty random, the out of 21 questions, 4 of mine were on the central nervous system, there was some basic nutrition type questions. I would say know the least blood flows through the heart. That has been on the last 4 tests at our school other than that, when it comes to the science portion, if you know it you know it, I'd now, try eliminating the obvious wrong answers and improve your chances with an educated guess. Do not leave a question blank, as you can not go back later to fill it in. It is all computerised and there is a basic calculator on screen that you can use. I personally scored 86% on mine. In our group of 151 testers the average score was 69% I would think anything over a 75% is good, bit the higher the better. If your GPA is good then you should do well with a 75 or higher. Obviously the higher the better on both Kaplan and GPA. Good luck and let us know how you did. BTW, I go to baker.

O also found the Kaplan prep study guide to ne useless on the science portion of the test. It was too vague, but for the rest of it, it was fairly accurate.

Thanks, I am from Arizona and my pre-req GPA should be 3.8, I am finishing up my last two pre-reqs. I was told by the nursing advisor that only 40% of the students who take the Kaplan, actually pass. That completely freaked me out and I will say that it feels horrible to think that my entrance into a program hinges on one test. I really appreciate all this information.

For math Mc Graw hills Nursing School entrance exam book is EXCELLENT. I only got one wrong on math portion. They freshen you up on your math skills and show you short cuts. You definitely need to know how to do proportions fractions decimals adding subtracting. There is BASIC algebra like solve for x. Real simple. No exponents or factoring, no primes, no binomials. I remember a math question word problem. It goes something like this: If there are 3000 cells and it increases by 7% each day, how many days will it take till there are 600 more. 2, 3, 8, 12. The Mc Graw Hill is good too for studying the blood flow through the heart which you NEED TO KNOW. There are at least 2 questions or more about blood flow. MaKe sure you know the lungs as well. I had a question ask where the gas exchange occurs in the lungs which is in the alveoli. I had another question too about "Metabolic Acids" and which system gets rid of them ( I believe) The reading is similar to the Kaplan test prep book, and with similar difficulty. The only difference is that the sentences and paragraphs are numbered so you can easily find your place. There is a grammar section which was the hardest section for me. It was just confusing. My adrenaline was pumping so hard so I had trouble focusing on it. Just relax when you take the test and keep your eye on the timer they have on the screen so you don't go flying through the exam or too slow. If you are adding or subtracting decimals on the calculator don't forget to add a 0 before hand as well. 0.231 not .231 or else it won't work right. I It's hard but it's not impossible. It is one of those tests (for me anyways) that you think you are doing AWFUL on, but at the end you do just fine I scored an 86% which I am not sure what the average is but its not too bad.

! I am not scheduled to take the test until November, so I have the time to put in for studying!

Hi, can anyone give me advice on the reading comprehension part because I am have difficult passing just that section and I don't know what I am doing wrong
