U.S.A. Kansas

Published

Hi!! Has anyone else applied to JCCC RN program, and waiting to hear back about an interview also?! The suspense is killing me! :woot:

https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-student/interview-questions-88629.html

Here's a link.. I just click on "students" at the top

then any of the green dots on the left that seem to go with what you're looking for

then at the bottom it says "enter key word" then i hit search.

I dont have any dress clothes! leggings and jeans for me!

You may want to try NFM for laptop. You can get the no interest for like 24-36 months. I have a mac book pro and love it! They also have a toshiba 10" tablet and you can get a case with a keyboard. it comes with microsoft office too! That was like $250 all together, and I can use it to watch movies on and stuff when we travel.

I dont even know exactly what classes they use towards our gpa.. like I wonder if my self defense (hyper elective) would go towards it? I mean, its part of the prereqs.. I guess.. :/ when i look up on degree check my overall is 3.53. But I really dont know which exact classes they use out of those! My ACT Science score was 24, and my overall was 23. I am a joco resident.

I hope I was able to help you a little!!

Thx for the link! Looks like I have some studying and rehearsing to do!

I met with a career counselor at JCCC last year and was told that they only look at the courses counting towards the RN program when calculating GPA ranking. So, courses like Anatomy, Human Development, Algebra, etc... basically the courses you listed on your application.

If you get in, are you planning on working while going to school? I'm going to try and commit to 12 hours of work per week at the hospital.

Be sure to tell me how your interview goes! I'll do the same.

I wont be working. Hopefully I can get $10,000 a year in loans so I can just concentrate on school alone! I work 9 hours a week now and I feel like it just kind of gets in the way of studying. Pell grant pays for my school so at least that wont be on my loans too! Im just crossing my fingers and praying a lot at this point! lol I will post as soon as I have my interview! :D

I had my interview today! I was pretty nervous, but I think I did ok. They told me they ask all candidates the same 11 questions, but I don't remember most of what they asked me, or what my replies were! lol I will say that the link on interviewing helped a lot. I didn't feel like there were any surprises. The interview only lasted 30 minutes and I came in with my list of questions, which I could tell they expected and were ready for.

I just wore a pair of black slacks, a very light, fitted blue sweater and matching jewelry... nothing chunky, just simple and tasteful. Pulled my hair back away from my face and smiled a lot. There were two other interviewee's there with me waiting to be seen... female wore a nice pants suit and the male wore a suit too. They looked pretty sharp!

Good luck! Let me know how it goes!! :D

Oh, forgot to mention... they actually encourage you to work while in the program. Say it's not recommended to work more than 20 hours, but that the experience will help you in the long run. At the same time, they said it isn't expected that you work, and it's entirely up to you. I told them I'd probably work 12 hours a week and they said that was perfect.

Some people try to work full time while in the program and they mentioned that some of these students struggle. I can only imagine!

Good thinking on the part time for experience! I have clinical experience already, but I'm sure they would prefer that I have recent experience around graduation time, and that can help you with job placement also! They didnt ask me about working though, thank goodness! I was there from 11-12 in a black pants suit! :D Im just so glad the interview is over! I have a good feeling, but dont want to jinx it!

Im going to list the questions I can remember and hope maybe someone searches for our topic and it will help them!

I think everyone gets the same questions... there were 10 questions that you read out loud off of notecards and then you answer them. . And these are loosely translated! :D

1. You have a term paper, exam and quiz due tomorrow, you also have to work a 4 hour shift tonight.. what do you do?

2. You are working in a hospital there is a pt that is a fall risk that needs out of bed, there is a pt that needs assistance using the restroom and has pushed their call light, and a coworker has passed you in the hallway and asked you to take another pt a snack. what do you do?

3. A friend of yours in class tells you that it is bothering them and kind of annoying because you ask so many questions in class everyday. what do you say to them, and what do you do?

4. you have a pt that asks you if they jump out of the window will they die, what should you do?

5. You see someone stealing a pts pain pill, what do you do?

6. Why did you chose JCCC instead of a BSN program somewhere?

I hope this helps someone! I would've loved to have known these and been prepared, I was beyond nervous! Best of luck to you all!!

I didn't see your post about your interview until today! Crazy! lol

I think we find out next week, or thereabouts, if we are in. At least that was their goal. Let me know what you find out and I will do the same!!

My husband told me on Monday that he may be losing his job... so there is an added element of uncertainty about this coming fall semester. Hopefully, things will come together though.

I just had my interview today for the Fall '16 program and I am so glad I had found this post and prepared! The questions were almost the exact same and I had spent the past month considering what my answers would be, so thank you for posting this!

How did things turn out? Did you get into the program? I felt like my interview went very well, but I won't know if they feel the same way for 6 weeks or so. The waiting is the worst!

I did get in! I'm in my second semester. I believe I got my letter on April 3rd. From what I understand the certified letters are acceptance letters and then maybe a week later rejection letters will come in regular mail.

Congrats!!! I've re-read your couple of threads so many times in preparation, I feel a little obsessive. But would you be willing to answer some of my questions about the program?

Like... How was 1st semester? What's the schedule like? How have the clinical experiences been? Are you finding time for work, or is school more than enough?

hahah I was the exact same!!! For first semester I had no idea what to expect. I thought the program was M-F 9-5. Thankfully I was way off! I will say that the first two weeks of any semester is the worst. You are given your 5 month schedule ahead of time so you know exactly what and where you will be doing everything. I have made it through with no scissors or hemostats, and one pair of JCCC scrubs. The first week was basically 4 days 8-3 (or so) of lecture. Second week was maybe a day of lecture half day of sim orientation, half day of lab orientation. (something like that) Then after the first two weeks it will be like one day for clinicals, one day for lecture, half day for lab... We didnt have sat clinicals until second semester. (it may be the same or different for your class) Most of the graduating classes start their own Facebook group for them to all stay in touch Like "jccc nursing class of 2017" and I started one for each of my clinical and sim groups. first semester our sim and clinical group were the same people. second semester for us, was two different groups of people. please keep in mind that some of this could change for your class, but for the most part it will be the same. clinical is awesome! take snacks and stay hydrated. I was really worried about a 12 hour day, but its doable. you stay busy and learn a lot. I just started working every other weekend. I don't have kids so I have the time. I know all of this is only temporary so i just push through. and i have like 8 really close friends. find people you mesh with and help each other when you can. you will all bring your own part. I wish you luck!! Feel free to ask me anything! I was out of school for 18 years and just went back in 2014 to start my prereqs, so if I can do it, anyone really can!

Oh man, you are amaaaazing! It's crazy how relieved I am to hear that you're in there, you're doing it, you're surviving, and you have enough free time to fill me in! I was preparing myself for 7a-7p, m-f!!!

I'm very much used to 12 hour days on my feet, so that should be fine. I think most of the fear comes from *not knowing* at all what to expect.

I spent over a decade out of school before diving in with no direction. I spent at least 40 credit hours on classes that don't apply... Trying to find my way. Now that I've found my direction, I am definitely the energizer bunny chasing the light at the end of the tunnel!

Proud of you for going after it and getting it done!

Follow-up question: JoCo resident, Act composite 28, SCI 26, GPA 4.0, all prereqs complete, and one of my interviewers told me that I "ROCKED that interview!" (lol) Should I be worried about not getting in? I would just LOVE for some one with any inside knowledge to tell me that my odds are good!
