Do Kaiser Hospitals hire new grads? Its kinda hard to tell from their website. Any new grad success stories or suggestions? Does anyone know any helpful info about the new unit at Oakland opening next year? Thanks

My understanding is the only way to get in as a new grad is to percept or to extern--at least that's the case thus far here in the Bay Area. Kaiser is a tough nut to crack. The new grad jobs are not posted on line as far as I can tell--and the online search engine is a bear to use. They've been doing a lot of reorganizing in this area and as yet have not done a lot of new grad hiring. However, when they do decide to open themselves up to new grads in general I hear they may just suck up the excess so am interested to follow this thread.

From my exp, Kaiser does not have a formal new grad program (or new grad hiring) in place right now. They have not for over a year. At their career fairs they turn away anyone with less than 1 year recent Acute exp (6-months for med/surg). It is not just Kaiser with this attitude though! Many hospitals are not hiring new grads, or are accepting just 1 or 2.
At the facility I work at, I was one of the last new grads hired and that was about a year ago. The local nursing students spend many hours in clinicals on these floors and don't have a chance. It's very sad and I hope the nursing economy changes soon. In the meantime, new grads cannot be picky!
On another note, my husband works as an electrician. He has several years experience and has worked about a month out of the last year. So, it isn't just Kaiser or even nursing in general, it seems the entire job market/economy is rough right now and nurses are not immune.
So true wee one--it's sobering to realize it's just not us CA new RN grads having a hard go of it. My husband works in a completely unrelated industry and has been furloughed this year. Of course this puts more pressure on me to find work.
