100K in California

Published

I'm a LVN in a prison in california.

i just finished RN school, and i'm waiting to take the NCLEX.

anyway, next year the state is planning on paying state RN's at the prisons 100K a year.

something you may want to look into.

you won't get that warm and fuzzy feeling, but its fairly easy job, great pay, great benefits.

I'm going to work 4 days a week, and do a few days a month doing wound care for a agency, so i can still do what a became a nurse for, and feel good about it.

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

I wish you luck. Its been my experience that when you are paid way more than what seems reasonable there are risks involved.

well that may be true, but i will have the same risk at 100K next year, as i do at 50K this year.

its the same prison i work at now.

actually the risk will be less for me in january.

as a LVN we have much more risk then the RN's do.

so next year i will get more money and less risk.

but still, prison work is a risk.

This is a court ordered pay raise that's mostly driven by vacancies in the Bay Area where $100K is actually market RN wages. You pretty much have to pay at least $100K to fill those positions in the Bay Area. There ... it's not an unreasonable amount of money

However, since it's state government ... that pay increase also goes to all of the other corrections positions throughout the state. So, if you happen to live in an area where the cost of living is much lower than the Bay Area ... it's a very nice salary.

I personally think it's fantastic. Only in California would a federal judge order substantial pay raises for RN's that will probably benefit everyone since now the hospitals will have to compete with these wages also.

All of the Correction RN will get a big raise, but not the same.

the bay area prisons will get a larger raise.

SVSP, CTF, San Quintin, they will get the big raise to 100,000.

the others i think get bumped to 90,000 which is great if you live in Fresno or inland places like that.

but the 100K is just for us.

Actually, the pay scale is $98K - $108 depending on cost of living but, you can also make more money out in really rural areas where it's difficult to staff.

$98K is the minimum ...

Or, if you want precise numbers ... the pay scale is $97,848 - $107,868 ... to be exact.

Since the cost of living is very cheap where I live ... I'll take it.
