Just a vent!!!

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I just needed to vent. I have not been on this site for a while so I see that some things have changed so if I post this somewhere that I should not, please move it to the appropriate site, please? I have read these posts religiously because I know I can get some insight to any issue I may have. Well, long story short, I am 40 days from graduating and some of my fellow nurses are soooooo mad, unhappy, basically upset that I am going to be an ARNP pretty shortly. I now have leaned that the practice we have all been working for for the last 9 years is no longer a "sure thing" for me because some nurses have taken their concerns to the powers that be that I am not NP material because I get along too good with the ancillary staff. Some members of the nursing staff don't believe I should be hired at that facigu

It's such a shame that people would react toward you in this way. I do believe it because I have seen it happen a few times in my workplace. There seems to be an invisible divide between nurses that are going for more education and those that are content with their staff nurse positions. Some (not all) nurses feel threatened by this. I have seen it with the BSN vs. ADN issue. Some of the best nurses I have worked with only have an ADN. They feel insecure at times with the focus of nursing leadership on greater education. I believe it is because they don't feel valued for the skills the possess through years of experience. And this is very true, many facilities are focusing more on education of nurses and certifications, and if you are not for that, they just kind of leave you behind.
