Just a vent about common sense..or lack thereof...

yup ..not a major huge deal but kinda basic common sense to me....

Ok...why is it that some nurses lack just basic common sense????

What I mean is we all know homecare is way different than hospital based ..right??? Well in homecare a patient gets limited medical supplies...mostly due to health insurance issues etc...Which as we all know stink in either place for anyone..but in home care for instance a patient will get for example.... supplies for a month..which equal out to like 4 items per month (1 per week) some things are 1x a month , a some 1x every three months pretty much depends on the item & what insurance says is alotted for supplies...why would someone waste items over something very very minor & think nothing of it, and have been told time & time again about how much the insurance allows them to receive???? For instance here's an example....a nebulizer set up.... now alot of you may or may not have a problem with things in warmer weather like say ants for example.....if you worked in a home & an ant crawled on something ( just one, not like a ton of them).......on the outside of the piece of equipment ,...why in the heck would you throw away the entire thing???? Now this is an item that is not sterile but could just be washed up quickly with a little soap & water...or one part like the corrugated tube that attatches onto it can be replaced from the box of 100 ft of corrugated tubing......just one little link cut to replace the one that got "dirty" even though it could be washed up with no issues....yet they choose to throw away the entire setup????? :angryfire

And if there are oxygen tanks..and an 02 compressor as well (which runs on electricity)..and you are very nervously asked..." If the power goes out, what are you going to do?" :uhoh3: the answer to them......Ummmmmmm......use the 02 tank????( gee & it requires no electricity )

Maybe it's me but it seems to be basic common sense.....

Here's another..every week equipment gets changed to new stuff.....a few items are once a month items.....and week after week to be told " there are no more of xx item left" Only to give the answer week after week...." Only 1 xx item is given per month" " Orders are delivered once a month..so that's all one gets unless an emergent situation arises where things are needed, such as a piece of equipment breaks down & needs repairs or to be replaced.

I don't want to sound like a big whiner as I know there are alot more things in life to worry about......but why why why do some people lack such basic common sense???????:uhoh3: lol.....gee I feel better now! Sorry for the rant...lol Any of you nurses or anyone here have any good examples of stuff like this???? I'd love to hear them!!! Thanks everyone!
