Hello everyone.
I more and more believe I will be making a career change to nursing. I have a BBA in Finance which included very little science. I will possibly look to complete prerequisites at a local community college. The only science course I took in college would have been some sort of chemistry class. I assume it was Intro to Chem. My question for you all is what courses, if any, should I take to prep for these prerequisites courses? I don't want to waste time and money taking classes that are not needed. At the same time I'd like to gain a good basic understanding of the subject matter since I'm basically starting from scratch. Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons:
My nursing program (long ago) took kids fresh out of high school and put them directly into the ancillary ("prerequisite" in most programs, but my program didn't differentiate -- the other courses were built into the nursing program) courses -- we took the same O chem, A&P, micro, etc., as the college's pre-med, bio, and chem majors, and the nursing students did fine. I wouldn't think you need to take any courses to "prepare" for the prereqs, just focus your time and effort on the program requirements.
Best wishes for your journey!

My first degree was Fine Art. So far (I'm in my first semester of pre-reqs) I haven't had any problems with classes.

you really dont need any prior knowledge of the material before entering the pre-reqs for the nursing program. Dont get me wrong coming straight out of high school and going into AP I does help just a little bit (there is some chemistry involved in AP I but minor) otherwise you should be fine. AP I is your foundation for the science classes that will follow, so as long as you can understand the material to some degree youll be fine in AP II and Microbiology. Some colleges also require a chemistry course (at college level) so you might have to take one of those as well. most of the other pre-reqs are psych, sociology, english, etc. which are more towards gaining your associates or bachelors degree in nursing. hope this helps and good luck, its a great career to be in, just have to put the time in to get there.
