Just started my first nursing course at Brookdale

I just was accepting into the Nursing program.. I am bit overwhelmed, and I am trying to find a direction on what to memorize. So far when I read the chapters everything seems very important to remember. The teachers power point doesn't cover much of anything. So what should I do. The teacher didn't get the best reviews, however I am determined to be successful in this course. Any suggestions?

Well you will learn that nursing tests are not about memorization, they are about understanding the material. You need to be able to determine what is the BEST answer. So I can only say read read read read and read some more.

Thanks so much!! I have been reading and reading and I remember for Anatomy I had to memorize all the steps.. In the chapters there is soo many steps to legal aspects, to ethical aspects.. I have to say I understand and take the Nclex questions at the end of chpts which is very helpful.

Reading only gets you 1/2 way there. If you know your style of learning, maximize your time in that. I do tons of things online, because I learn better that way. I can't sit and read my MASSIVE med/surge book. I have 3 kids, so its a constant interruption at home. But, if I check out a quick video here---another one there..it all adds up. And sticks better than broken up paragraphs I read. Check out some NCLEX or HESI review books, and learn how the tests are set up. Learn how to cut out the distractors, and all of that. Good luck. Keep your head up, and DO NOT shut down your life for nursing school. You need fun and time to breathe.

thanks.. I defiantly get what you are saying.. I was so anxious and had a bit of anxiety because of the weight of the nursing program and all there rules if you don't score an 90 on the math or a 85 you get kicked out of the program lol. It took me 2 years of waiting and no second chances for much of anything. However I stoped reading for a day and felt a lot better to walk away from it for little bit. So I don't get overly stressed and nervous because I want to do great. I started looking at clinical videos and I am not at that step tilll sept lol.. So I have to relax a bit lol according to my professor.
