Just a few Questions about HH

Published

Hello Everyone!

I'm a new grad LPN in MA and have been a nurse in LTC for 4 months. I was intrested in Home Care, I wasn't sure If you had to have a certain amount of experience before your a home health nurse? Will they even hire and train you with little experience I have? Is it better for me to wait to try it out? I'm very intrested and just wondering. Thank you all for your help.:nurse:

While there are some home health agencies who will hire (and maybe train) new grads, most require from 6 months to two years of nursing experience. You can find out by calling agencies in your area and asking or you just might go down to the office and see what is up. You can get a feel for what hh is like by reading older threads in this forum and by finding hh nurses to talk to about their job. If you do decide to go into home health, you will do best for yourself by insisting that you are given a thorough orientation, both to the job and agency, and to each individual case you will be working. Ask to shadow a home health nurse. If they won't let you shadow or give you the brush off when you ask for orientation, you have probably found an agency that will not give you the support you need for your job.
