Just looking for some feedback

Stressing right now about getting on the wait list for the nursing program at my school. I can't find the information about what day they do that at the end of the quarter (finishing up my prereqs now). I know I can email the counselor on monday for the info. We are trying to plan our summer family vacation and it suddenly occured to me that I don't know what day we go in for that. So, probably because I'm already stressed about my current courses, this is keeping me awake. We are planning an extra special trip to disneyland, which we've never done before. Because hotels book up there so quickly, I'm trying to get one reserved.

So, just to get some basic ideas, for those of you with schools that take waitlists, when did they have the applicants come in to turn in applications? Was it, for instance, the day after finals?

I've never applied to a waitlist, so I can't help you there, but I would think that waiting 1 more day to find out for sure when you need to be availabe shouldn't make that big of a difference for getting a hotel room. Schools seem to vary quite a bit in their application/deadline processes, so it probably won't help much to get that info from others. I would try to call the school first thing in the morning as soon as they open up to get the info you need and then make your reservations. Or you can see if any of the hotels will allow you to change your reservation w/out penalty and then move it around as necessary. Good luck! I've never been to Disneyland, but I did go to Disney World and it was so much fun! I bet your family will have a blast.

Disneyland...how exciting. Growing up as a kid my sister and I used to climb up on the roof so we could watch the fireworks at night. Times were different back then; nowadays parents letting their children climb up to the roof in the dark would have CPS all over them. But I digress...

Yeah every school is different regarding their deadline for accepting applications for the following semester. I would imagine it would be towards the end of the semester...depending on when your semester began you may or may not be too late. But don't let me worry you...just call 'em up first thing Monday morning. But if you can, I'd just contact the nursing department directly...call them or go down in person. I've had bad experiences with counselors before so that's my thing...I'd rather just go right to the source: the nursing department itself, rather than someone in the counseling department.

Thing is though, I would imagine that somewhere on the webpage for the nursing department they'd state when their cutoff date for accepting applications would be. There's nothing there?

My school had a wait list...and when I turned it in I just simply put an application in a special "In Box." No formal meeting/interview with anyone.

Good luck!!

yea, at our school you have to wait until the you are completely finished with prereqs to prove you can apply. So, for all the people finishing this quarter, they can't apply until its over. That's as much as I know. I've searched all over their website and can't find the info I need. I know that obviously I can wait until tomorrow, and will have to, but I'm a major worry wart about everything.

I heard from word of mouth that the day you can apply people line up in the hallway and it is first come first serve on the list. NOthing from a real source though.

Thanks for the feedback!

Personally, I didn't apply until after I completed the prereqs. [This was because when I called the office where I had to turn in the application, unbeknownst to me, an utter and complete dipsh*t answered the phone and told me they were completely backup, and wouldn't even be able to process my application until early the following February (this was in December, toward the end of the semester). This turned out to be completely incorrect as I verified (or is it "unverified"?) what I was told when I actually did turn in my application.]

I had talked to other classmates before who stated they were getting something like letter from their professor stating something to the effect of "this student currently has a grade of ___ and based on their prior performance I anticipate that the student will wind up with a grade of ____." They got such a letter shortly before their final in the class.

Really? People line up like crazy just to turn in an application? Or is there an actual interview? I heard for the longest time that there was an interview required at my school...heard that from numerous sources. But when the time came I was blown away by just having to put an application in an "In Box" and be done! Maybe they were just sick of having to interview all those people on the wait list. Last I checked the list at my school was at like 700-something.

Took me one year to get to 350ish and I just took the state-mandated TEAS, if there's room I'll be entering this Fall. If not, (and I'd likely be edged out by only 10 people or so) I'll have to wait until next Spring. sigh....

I can't speak to the application dates, but I am an annual passholder at Disneyland, and can tell you that you'll have NO problem getting a hotel room nearby, even at the last minute. Hotel occupancy rates in the Anaheim area are really low right now, and unless you must stay at a Disney hotel (which I don't recommend), you'll be able to find one without a problem, and for less than $70 a night. Try Priceline or Hotwire.

Spoke with my counselor and she said I can come in at the end of the quarter and fill out paperwork, then she'll submit it on the turn in day for me.

As far as DL, we aren't staying on the premises, but as we are traveling with a large group, we wanted a 2 bedroom suite. There were only 2 hotels available to do this so I wanted to be able to put a reservation in. cost isn't really much more since you are paying for one room vs two. since we are making a long driving trip to get there, we'd like to have some space while we are there. We also have 2 people traveling with us that won't stay in our room, so its nice to have some space for them to come over when we are doing planning for the day or such.

Thanks for all the help!
