just curious

Setphrooth's question and everyone's answers have me curious...

How many of you have to come in to school for teacher institute days and parent/teacher conferences?

I have to come in for it all.

I only have to come to the all staff meeting before school starts. Other staff meetings, inservices and professional days, no.

I do not have a teacher certification so I do not come for any inservice type days or parent nights, etc. I am here for material pick up days as part of my summer hours though.

I have to come in for everything.

I attend our monthly after school staff meetings, sometimes I am excused early because the material covered doesn't pertain to me.

We have "professional development" days where students are not here but basically all staff is here. Sometimes the nursing department will have our own training/meetings and sometimes we are told just to go to our campus and work in our office.

I am required to be here for "Meet the Teacher" night at the beginning of school year - I just hang out in my office, I tend to get alot medication questions and "oh BTW my kid has blah blah blah....I forgot to note on health information at registration".

PTA events - we have 2 big events to raise funds - a fall picnic and spring dance, the principal can't make us come but she strongly encourages all staff to attend/volunteer 1 hour at one of the events since the PTA does so much for the staff.

All staff are required to be at inservice days, however many things don't pertain to me, so I get time to work in my office. I'm not required at weekly/monthly teacher meetings, only if an all staff meeting is called. I'm not required at Open House either, but I usually end up being there because it overlaps with inservice days.

I reluctantly come in for all of them. It's a waste of a day because there are no kids, no parents want to speak with me, and nothing to do. I usually catch up on paperwork then sit back and read a book. I've tried to get out of it, but the children sometimes come in with their parents and "might get injured."

I come for what I'm contractually required to do.

Having said that, I'm asking to teach hands-only CPR to staff and PTA and I'll do that whenever they'll let me because it's important.

I am here for our Back To School Bash. I typically don't stay for the staff meeting unless I am specifically asked to as the information doesn't really pertain to me and the nurses have their own staff meetings. Parent/teacher conferences...nope. Snow days...nope (we make our days up at the end of the year scanning in all of our MARS and documents).

If students aren't in the building having me here is pretty much just a waste of money. And in the event of a kiddo needing medicine during P/T conferences, admin is here and med trained.

I have to be here for all of it too.

I don't go to staff meetings which is everyday. I went once when the Police Department were here for some sort of meeting. That is it, other than that I don't think I'm needed in all staff meetings.

I like my PD days, I get work done and I can disappear for an hour and no one cares.

I have to be here 7 days more than the students. i do 5 days prior to school starting, 1 in the middle, and 1 at the end
