I just completed a picc course. I need to complete a couple of placements to become more proficient. I work in the er where there is not another picc certified nurse. I'm in the dallas area where can i go to complete my supervised starts? Any help would be appreciated.

Congratulations! Unfortunately I don't know anything about Dallas, so I can't help you, but I bet someone on here does. I had a question though (related to my previous post about a PICC survey). Are you going to be placing PICCs in the ER? Will you use US? Who will have to read the xray to verify - you or an ER doc?
We are trying to get over some hurdles at our facility about nurses placing PICCs independantly... I need DATA!!!!
Cogratulations! I completed the didacted portion of the PICC line certification online through BARD. I was actually supposed to go to place my lines tomorrow but because of hospital legal issues it has been postponed for 3 weeks. I know that if you use BARD products at your hospital they will send a preceptor dowm for 2 days to precept you. You have to insert a minimum of 5 lines per day. This is at no cost to you but does cost the hospital 150 dollars each for 10 nursing kits they require you to buy. I assume radiology places most of your PICC lines. Most of them are very open to letting nurses with certification put in lines. Can't hurt to try. Let me know how it turns out.
Can some one tell me is there a maximum cc/hr for IVF through a PICC?
I think the rep from whatever company makes the PICCs you are using (Bard or ??) could tell you the specs for their product. I know that our radiology won't use a PICC line for contrast with their power injector, but honestly I don't know what rate that runs at. Bard does now make a "power PICC" that is said to safe to use with this, but we of course don't have them! Also, the anesthesiologists won't use them - they want fluid to run in fast on gravity and it just won't (usually) with a PICC.
