Johns Hopkins DNP FNP Fall 2021

Published

Hi everyone! I have not seen a thread about Johns Hopkins' Fall 2021 DNP-FNP application cycle. Has anyone who applied early decision heard anything yet? I'm wondering if COVID has delayed their processing at all. Any insights would be great!

Sorry to hear... I was waitlisted by Maryland but accepted by Hopkins. Hopkins gave me 3 weeks to pay $500 deposit to secure my spot.

Interesting. Do you have any theories as to why you would be waitlisted at Maryland and accepted at JHU? I realize that Maryland has a very good reputation but  if I am not mistaken, has a much larger program. It also requires in-person attendance one day each week, at least in non-Covid times. Maybe it is a result of all the Maryland residents applying to get in-state tutition?

I ask myself the same thing. Honestly I would’ve still picked Hopkins because of my scholarship, But during my Maryland interview for the 3 year FNP program, they told me that their 3 year FNP program is “rigorous and is mostly reserved for military nurses.” They are afraid that if their “non-military 3 year students cannot work during the 3 years then the students won’t be able to have a place to practice assessment skills outside of school.” (I thought that’s what clinicals are for...). Also if that’s the case they should’ve just disclosed that on their website instead of telling me that during my interview. Mind you, my interview was first week of January with Maryland, and I got my waitlist email this week with no updates in between.

Hello! I applied by the 1/1 deadline and interviewed mid-February.  After waiting months for an answer, I received my admission offer with a 25K scholarship yesterday! ? I am beyond excited for this journey!!

Congratulations! I can imagine how happy you must be. I was curious whether you were admitted off the waitlist or whether this was your first decision from the school?

Thank you! So I wasn't waitlisted, the admission offer was my only correspondence from JH since my interview. Tbh, I assumed I was going to be denied given the radio silence since my interview in February. Happy to answer any other questions!

Hey everyone!

Anyone on the waitlist heard anything yet? Should I call???

I haven’t heard anything. I’m not even sure how their waitlist works. If you call, please let us know what you find out ?

The Admissions Office told me three weeks ago that no one had been taken off the waitlist and that it was hard to tell if anyone would be taken off the waitlist. I have no info since then. Good luck to all!!

I am applying to the DNP-FNP for Fall 2022, do you all have any tips for the application process what was yall's average GPA? Did any of you transfer from another program?

I would apply early. I have my MSN in Clinical Nurse Leadership and GPA 3.7. I feel like I got waitlisted because I applied late (middle of January) and I feel like I botched my interview. I’m an ER RN and I just got done with 4 shifts in a row that were pretty traumatic and then my interview was at 4am PST. I don’t feel like I was very lively during my interview ?. I am still on the waitlist and would accept a spot if I was offered but I am registering for fall classes at UC to just get a post-master’s certificate. I don’t want to wait another year. The ER just isn’t fun anymore.

eschuman I can relate to working in the ER, I actually stepped out of the ER and took a Director position to go back to school since the schedule is a little more laid back. Well at least at my job, yeah I feel you I don't know if I should waste another year applying elsewhere and to Vande or just go with schools who are offering me Fall 2021 admission...
