Johns Hopkins BSN-MSN CNS with residency Jan 2012

Published

Hi Everyone!

I am getting ready to submit my application to the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. The program I am applying to is a 34 month combined BSM-MSN for a Clinical Nurse Specialist with a 1 year residency. I was just curious if anyone else on here has applied, is thinking of applying or is possibly already in the first cohort. I would love to hear your feedback!

That sounds awesome! I wish I had the required healthcare experience to apply! Lots of luck!

Thanks I'm super nervous! I don't technically have 1-2 years of clincal healthcare experience but when I spoke with an admissions representative they said they were flexible on the experience. I have worked in a clinical setting with adults who have psychological disorders for a year so I hope this works for my experience.

Hello! I've applied to that program as well. Have you gotten your decision yet? I am anxiously awaiting!

I applied in August and just got an interview date yesterday. I know this is on a rolling basis, so have others heard back already? I feel like January is getting really close and I'm so anxious to hear!

Yes, some have heard back. You can PM me if you want. I am glad to hear they are still interviewing candidates, because so far the class size is quite small!

I am new to this and apparently I don't know how to send private messages, sorry! I'm assuming if you know about the class size, you got in -- congrats! What was your motivation for seeking out a CNS program? Did you think about other advanced practice degrees?

Thanks! What I like about CNS is the ability to work as an educator, not just to patients but to other staff and maybe even one day to students. It seems to have versatility and broader possibilities than other advanced degrees. To me, it seems kind of fun to be in a position to come up with creative solutions to problems and to take on different projects all the time. For example, one CNS i spoke with was given the job to create a follow-up neonatal clinic where there had never been one before, and so she had to think of everything that would be required to create something like that, essentially to turn somebody's vision into a reality.

I was also considering NP, and still am, but I don't know that NP's have as many possibilities in their job description besides diagnosis. I was also enticed that this program at Hopkins places you in a residency, which would really nurture students new to nursing. Then again, how successfully can students new to nursing be transformed into Specialists within 3 years? Why the rigid time frame when their other BS>MS programs have much more flexibility? Maybe some questions you can ask during your interview!

Anyone looking to live in a newly renovated rowhome in Fells Point for January 2012 or before?

My name is Christine and I'm a current JHU SON student in the BSN program. There is a beautiful, newly painted and carpeted room with lots of windows and a skylight available in Fells Point. It's on the third floor of a three-bedroom rowhome with its own large bathroom, complete with separate shower and tub. Rent is only 600/month and the house is in walking distance to school. I currently live there with two lovely JHU nursing students. I'm looking to have someone move-in any time between now and January. I am all set to move in to another apartment where a friend of mine has a two-bedroom so I can move my things at any time. The reason I'm leaving this great house is because I have a small puppy who is lonely during the day and needs a doggy friend to stay with as she's used to being with another dog and is not doing well on her own :(. Please let me know if you or anyone you know is interested and would like more details/ and or pictures. I'd also be able to show the place and my roommates would love to meet you as well!!
