Jobs while studying Nursing

I have a BA Degree in Social Sciences Major in Social Anthropology - Minor in Political Science. What are the possible jobs that I can get into to help me pay my nursing classes? Can I work in the hospital? If so, what jobs are suited for me?

Thank you.

I work in a library part-time in the evenings (classes haven't started yet, but it'll be M-Thur. 7:30-3:30) so I'll work evenings and weekends at the library.

Some hospitals allow you to work as a patient care tech (PCT) once you've completed the Essentials of Nursing Practice (or whatever it's called at your school). It's basically being a CNA, but the position is reserved for nursing students. Hours aren't guaranteed, and you do a variety of jobs in all areas of the hospital. I'd ask at the educational office at local hospitals. I'm in Georgia, where it pays ~$12/hr, but about a decade ago, a friend did it in Texas and earned around $15/hr.

Where are you from? Are you taking nursing as a second degree? When will your classes start?

I live in Little Rock, Arkansas. Most public libraries are very flexible with schedules. Nursing will be my only degree. Classes start for me July 5th.

Did your friend worked as a PCT full time while taking nursing classes?

How much for an hour? Let me know how it goes when classes start. Thank you so much, CoryReece :)

I work as a PCT. I had no training other than what I have gotten my first year in nursing school. The pay is not great, but it gives me more hands on experience than I get in clinical and I am already employed at the hospital where I want to work after graduation.

I get paid like $12.50 an hour, but I also have like a lot of experience in the library. A friend of mine who just started gets paid like $10 an hour.

Wow! I get 8.70 an hour. I am in Mississippi though.

Do you pay for your nursing school? Are you taking ADN or BSN?

Did you work during your first year? Is it hard getting PCT jobs?

I am in an ADN program and I pay everything out of pocket. After I work there for awhile, I am going to look into tuition reimbursement for the RN-BSN program. I didn't work until this past month. I don't think I could have made it through the first year and working. It was a huge adjustment for me. Nursing school is so different from any other classes I have every taken.
