Jobs in Philadelphia??

U.S.A. Pennsylvania

Hi - I can't seem to find a job as a new nurse in the Philadelphia area. I graduated in the summer, and unfortunately I did not work in a hospital as an aide or a tech while I was in school. I have applied to every job within a 1-hr radius of the Philadelphia area, and I have called to follow up on these applications - with only a few interviews as a result. I really want to work in a hospital as my first nursing job, and not in a nursing home or a rehab center

Do you have any suggestions?

I am willing to work hard. I'm not afraid of that. I am interested in the ICU, ER, or some other critical care type of unit, but I am willing to take anything to just get some experience!

I'm afraid I will lose all of my knowledge and skills that I gained in nursing school!!

I am a hard-working, motivated individual - I worked my way up through the ranks of corporate America for 10 years before deciding to turn to nursing. I have plenty of work experience, just none in healthcare. And that's probably what is killing me - the lack of experience.

What can I do??

Specializes in Telemetry/Vascular Surgical.

I also graduated in summer 2008, and had a hard time looking for a job in the Philadelphia area. Did you try hospitals in the suburbs? The pay is lower but orientation is usually great. How did your interviews go????

Have you tried Brandywine Hosp in Chester County or Lancaster General in Lancaster? Both are hiring new grads. But most hosp start hiring new grads in Jan and Feb. I was hired in Jan but did not start till Aug. All of my classmates did the same I think everyone is working.

Good Luck
