Okay, here is the short version...husband applied to a bunch of doctorate programs all over the country.....When he starts getting acceptance or rejection letters back, one of the many factors we will take in making the decsion where to go will be the availability of jobs in the prospective cities for New Grads as I graduate in 2010 with an ADN ( I also have a BA in another field if it matters, which I know it does for some employers) so..... Chicago.....tough for new grads to find jobs or okay? Thanks for your help!

In my area the western suburbs of Chicago not too many jobs being posted. At least in the hospital. I know my hospital has only one nursing position open .5 for behavioral health. I look to see what other hospital have to offer not too much out there. Start looking at the area you are interested in and see whats available. I feel bad for the new grads we certainally need nurses. From what I see we are starting to take more patients very hard and stressful

I am a new grad and have been applying to nursing jobs since October of 08'. So far I have had 3 interviews and of the three one position was cancelled due to the economy. The second one offered a part time position and the third interview Im still waiting to hear back on.It has been a lot tougher than I originally thought it would be. I would say be persistent and also you can look into the nearby suburbs if you are open to it.
Any other new grads having problems getting a job? It's sad because Im sure we all are really excited to start working and it seems like we can't! Help!

Its not good at all. I had been looking for a job since October of 2008 as well and never got a bite. Then Children's Memorial called me for an interview. They offered me the job and I've accepted. Out of all the jobs I applied to, which was about 12, they are the only one that called me back.
Just keep looking is all I can say, it can be frustrating, but just keep going forward.

I don't think the job market is good for anyone. New grad or not. I just received an email that there will be a job fair in Tinley Park coming up. Maybe you can attend that and it will open some doors for you. Good luck!
