Job Shadowing a Nurse in NY?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hey, I am 15 years old and I am hoping to become a nurse, especially in either neonatal or pediatrics. I volunteer at the hospital, but I know a few other people who have "job shadowed" someone in order to learn exactly what the person does in his/her career.

I was wondering how I could job shadow a nurse in ny? (anywhere on **Long Island, or even near the Hudson valley, around new paltz, kingston, and poughkeepsie)

Thanks!

not familiar with the laws in NY but minors are not allowed to sign contracts in Texas and we require confidentiality form to be signed, so in effect we do not allow shadowing. There is too much risk for patient confidentiality to be compromised. Also, there is a risk you could get infected or hurt in some way. Good luck with your search.

Do you know any nurses? If so, ask them to check with the head of their department.

My daughter shadowed me at work for 8 hours when she was 16. It was fantastic! She had a great time, and I was so proud of her. Everyone I work with loved her - even the doctors. (But she definitely decided she wasn't going to be a nurse. haha)
