Job searching while pregnant?

Specializes in CNA, Nursing Student.

I am a pre-nursing student and I just recently acquired my STNA (or CNA) license in my state. Before I could actively start looking for jobs, I found out I was pregnant. I know that STNAs do a lot of heavy lifting which is not ideal for a pregnant woman, so do any of you have any ideas of what kind of jobs I could apply for/look for in the medical field?

It all depends on how your pregnancy goes. I have known women who worked as aides in LTC until the day before they gave birth without a problem, but I have also known aides that were put on light duty at four months. If you're worried about your physical limits as your pregnancy progresses, try starting out at an assisted living or senior living community. The physical workload tends to be a lot lighter than in nursing homes or long-term care, but you are still dipping your toes into the medical field. I worked in assisted living for 6 months before going to LTC and while there were a few incontinent residents that needed peri-care, there was a lot of snack delivering, standing-by while people transferred themselves, laundry, and assisting with showers. I was later trained as a med aide and passed out medications (I'm Oregon you can be trained and delegated on the job to do this without a license)

After the baby is born you could take that experience into LTC, if you'd wish.
