Job search advice

I am currently in a nursing program and I have one year left before I graduate. I have completed two clinical rotations so far and I have been applying everywhere for a tech position. I don't have any certifications or any medical background so I think that is what's hurting me in finding a job.

My first question is what can I do to make myself stand out or improve my chances of getting a job as a PCT?

Secondly, I did receive a call (voicemail) about an application, however when I tried returning the phone call I could not get an answer from the recruiter. I left several messages over the course of about 2 or 3 weeks, even left a message with the HR department and received no call back. One week ago the recruiter finally answered the phone and told me that the particular spot I had been contacted about already had several interviews, but there was another position that I would be a good fit for and the lady loves working with nursing students. So she said she would send my info to her and after she speaks with her call me back to set up an interview. Well now I am afraid she will not call me back since it was such a struggle getting in touch with her in the beginning. It's been one week and my application for that position says "under consideration" on the status updates. Should I just wait patiently or should I call back after another week or so? I don't want to seem annoying I just am afraid she won't get back to me.

Thanks for reading all of that and any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

I networked during clinicals and made a point for the unit director to know who I am. That got me the interview and job.
