Job Positions.

Published

This may sound like a "dumb" question but ...

I'm kind of at a loss as to what positions or even how I apply for GN/RN positions.

I've applied to some, pretty blindly.

And although I might have a position already lined up through a friend, I need to prepare myself and learn these ropes anyway.

I usually ....

I go to the careers section, then most have a nursing specific section. What do I look for in the title? RN I? GN?

Also, how can I go about obtaining the recruiters email address?

I'm really new to this. I'm the 3rd college graduate in my immediate family and the professionals in my family (nurses/physicians) live in a foreign country so I'm really lost.

Specializes in Trauma | Surgical ICU.

Look for New Grad RN residency programs (popular in bigger cities and states like California).

Read through the posting:

If it says "preferred" to have experience... you can apply. It just means they'd like someone with experience but will consider new grads.

If it says "will train", then new grads are welcome

If it says "must have", especially postings with specific time period of work related experience then it's not for you.

Nowadays, job postings will include "not accepting new grads" or "new grads need not apply"

Don't apply blindly. If you apply electronically, some HR retain application records for 10-years and can disqualify you for inconsistencies in your resume.

Make sure to gear your application towards the position you are applying for. If it's for ER, highlight how energetic and quick-on-your-feet-face-any-challenge person you are.

Thanks you!

Looked back and I had only applied to a couple GN positions a while back. Right now I'm in the midst of revamping my resume. What I thought was a good resume, really needed some work. Thankfully I have support from the school with this process.

I was advised to add more detail to my clinical experience as a nursing student. I know this is a whole other topic from the original thread.

I'm wondering if I need to add info to every single rotation or what I see pertinent or important to the position I'm applying to.

For example, for OB I think I put something along the lines of:

Antepartum - Managed care of patients with preeclampsia and preterm labor. Assessed fetomaternal status in response to pathology and pharmacological interventions such as magnesium.

(Is this too much? Would this be pointless to place for medsurg but useful for ER?)

Note: I'm not applying for any OB related jobs.

Once again, thanks!

I applied for numerous GN position but never got a call/email/etc, so i started applying for Nurse Clinician I positions and I struck gold with an ER position. If you see a job listing that you want then apply for it, at least give it a shot.
