Job Offer and Upcoming Interview

Nurses Professionalism

I was offered a position in Home Health on Thursday. Later that day I got an interview for a position in Interventional Radiology (IR). The earliest the interview could be set up is almost 2 weeks later on a Wednesday. I am more interested in the IR position. However I don't know how long I should leave HH waiting for my response. I already work for this company now, on an inpatient med/surg unit the last 5 years. The med/surg unit manager will have to decide, after I tell her of job offer, when to "release" me...not the usual "putting in your 2 weeks". I have no idea how long until she would "release" me. I know of someone that it was 6 weeks...and we are currently in a nurse shortage and doing forced overtime. I want to get out of med/surg for a few reasons one being the schedule and 12 hour shifts. My kids are starting school and I feel like I will miss more and more. I want/need the 8 hour shifts. I don't want to pass up HH in hopes that I will get the IR job, then not get the IR job and still be stuck on med/surg. What do I do?!?!

I'm totally in the same boat with you. I need professional insight here as well. Hope all goes well for you and you get the job you want!

Me too. I have interviews with two different dialysis companies on Monday but I also applied for some work from home telephone case management positions with insurance companies. I have experience in both dialysis and home telephone nursing, so I'm not sure what to do. I would really prefer a work from home job but what if I turn down the dialysis positions, and then the insurance companies never call? I wish there was some law on the books that said that a company has to let you know within 24 hours whether they are interested in hiring you or not, lol. It would save a lot of grief and not knowing what to do!
