Hi,
I am new to this site and I just wanted to get some input. I was recently given the opportunity to accept a staff development position in a LTC facility. Currently the facility has a person coming in once a month to do the orientation and their annual inservices. The facility wants a permanent SDC to build the program. I would be responsible for practically redoing the entire program from orientation, inservices, lesson plans, materials/resources and so forth. I have taught before, but never in this capacity. How do you all like SD and what is the hardest part about it and where do you get most of your resources and materials? Thanks for any and all help in advance!

Hi Buttercup - first, congrats on the offer !!Second, make sure they don't want to couple it with infection control nurse, it's something that is commonly done and you really take away from the educational piece if you combine the two.
Now, to your question. This site is a great place (click on pt. education or anything that looks like it would be helpful). I just clicked around and found several great sites that other nurses have been kind enough to forward - I am sending them to my ADON who does education in our building. Also, if your building is part of a corporation with several buildings then get in touch with the other educators and borrow, copy, and exchange ideas with them. There are also several modules out there where they walk you step by step through all of the inservices including post test and answers. Boarders or Barnes and Noble are also good places to tap into, find a book and sit down to read about whatever subject you would like (that's provided you have that extra time - many of us don't). Last, but never least, there is the good old internet - just enter the subject and "Wella!" You have more than you could ever want on it.....
Best of luck to you - go for it if you like to teach.
Thanks so much for your advice and help with this site. I took the job and start next week! Buttercup01
