Hello: my family is considering relocating to richmond. What is the job market like there? I would be looking for a job in case management or similar, preferably part time. I realize that part time may not be possible to start.
Any insights are appreciated! Thanks!

you will have no trouble finding a job! Sometimes the case management jobs can be scarce at some parts of the year but there are so many facilities in richmond that you should have no problem especially if you already have experience. It all depends on which type of setting you want to work in as well. The biggest hospital is the VCU health systems. It is a teaching hospital. Great place to work. Great benefits. Great hospital to go to if you don't know your diagnosis. They will figure it out!!!! Good luck! You will love Richmond! It truly is a great place and the job market for nurses/case managers is widely opened! You will have no trouble! Good luck :)

Thank you, Kelly! I don't have experience in case management, but in a related role (screening patients for rehab placement), so case management would be a pretty natural transition.
I do have experience in other areas, but I am also interested in perhaps getting into other specialty areas, like surgery, where I have little experience. Is this possible? Where I am now you can't get a job in an area in which you don't have 2 years of experience!
You will be just fine! Because the job market is so large in Richmond, you will have many opportunities. Even if you don't feel you qualify for the job please still apply. They will probably consider you for the job. you don't have to have at least two years of experience in Richmond especially in the teaching hospitals such as VCU/MCV. There are a ton of hospitals in richmond and the surrounding areas so I am pretty sure you will land a job in whichever area you choose. Just keep applying until you get an interview. The hospitals also hire a lot of new grads so they are open to training new nurses for their specialty field! i know you mentioned you liked surgery, well a lot of the outpatient clinics and also the OR's in practically all the hospitals hire new grads so you should be just fine :) It's great to be in such a big place with a lot of healthcare opportunity because they are a little more lenient to whom they accept for a position. Sorry it took me a while to reply! Please let me know if I can help you in any other way. I also have a lot of family and friends who work in the hospitals in richmond so let me know which one you choose and I can help you out a little bit!
Thank you so much for the lovely note! Very encouraging! I have a job here that I love, but I may want to branch out when we move, especially since my options here have been limited from some specialities due to experience requirements. I am really hoping that my husband can find a job in richmond!
