Job Market in the PHX area

Published

I currently work in a large metropolitan hospital in a cardiac/stepdown floor. I have 5 yrs of experience with a BSN. I will be moving to the PHX area and would like to know how the market is and average salary. I would greatly appreciate it;)

Hi there! I moved to Phoenix from Ohio a little over a year ago with 10 years of peds RN experience under my belt, so my view on it may be a little different than yours. I will say that my pay was about $7/hr higher, but there are less incentive pays at the hospital I am at. Additionally, coming from one of the top 3 Children's Hospitals in the US to PHX, I feel the amount of professionalism, accountability, and general standards of care are significantly decreased - not that they aren't safe, but just that the work standards and ethics I am used to are not here.

My husband works at one of the larger adult hospital systems here in Phoenix, not as a provider/patient care, and came from another large health care system in Ohio as well - he also says from his perspective even in the adult hospital, the standards are just a lot lower. I was recently a patient two months ago and also shared the same feelings as a patient as well.

I realize this is off topic, but the consensus that my husband, myself, and coworkers I've spoken with who have worked at hospitals in other major cities is that it feels like Phoenix is behind in health care in general, and they very much prescribe to a "that's how we have always done it" type of mentality. Just wanted to share my experience as I wish someone would have shared theirs with me prior to my move.
