Hey all, I am currently in my first year of a 3 year FNP program, and am getting a little nervous about my choice to go back to school. Right now, there are 4-5 nurses that work on the same unit I do that are also going back for their NP degrees. I hear about the job market becoming over-saturated in other states, and was just wondering if there were any NP's out there who could give me their opinions on whether or not it's a wise choice to continue on? Specifically in Ohio? (I haven't heard much about Ohio in other similar threads).
I already have a year invested, and I know it's what I would like to do, but of course I need to be able to find a job when i'm finished. Any advice?

The market is becoming extremely oversaturated.
NP programs are opening like crazy, especially the online for profit ones that take in a HUGE number of students - most have around a 99% acceptance rate. Because of this, and the fact that they can be done online part time, almost every BSN prepared RN in the country is in the process of becoming an NP.
This will affect the market in the near future. The percent increase in graduating NPs is growing astronomically, and the job market cannot absorb all of these endless new grads. There are already areas where NPs are having a difficult time finding jobs, and I truly fear that if the credentialing bodies don't step in to limit the seats in NP programs, that this entire field will go the way of law school or psychology majors.
I used to think becoming an NP was a very secure career path. I no longer believe that is the case. Many on this forum refuse to believe this and seem to have no idea how the market works, but the simple fact is that the scale of supply and demand is soon to tip against our favor.

I graduated in January, had multiple interviews in February, had three offers, and started a job in March. I am in the Cleveland/Akron area. Had way more trouble and longer time frame finding an RN job a few years ago as a new grad. So I can't speak for what it will be a few years from now but to me it seemed pretty good now for me
