Hi all,

I am in the Greater Boston area and our job market here is non exist ant. New Grads can't find jobs at all and experienced nurses like myself are also having a hard time. I am looking to change specialties and am finding that even with all my years (15) of nursing experience specialties are just not hiring without experience in that particular area. They don't have to because our market is so saturated with nurses.

We have been considering a move to Charleston for many years and this may be the time. What is your market like right now?

There are several hospitals hiring. The big thing down here is they want RNs with a BSN or at least a plan for it. I would look online at the 3 big hospital groups and see. Roper St Francis, MUSC (medical school) and Trident Hospital. Hope this helps.

It does help, thank you. I am actually finishing my RN to BSN program up now so I will be BSN prepared when we actually move. I did call Roper Hospital and spoke to a nurse recruiter and she was very nice. She said the hospital does at times hire nurses into the OR who have RN experience but not OR experience. That is what I am looking for. It is pretty much impossible to do up here right now. I will give a call to MUSC and Trident as well. I must be honest.....I was shocked that I was even able to speak to a real person at Roper.....again up here that would't happen.

I work at Roper and am a First Assist in the OR. We are having several nurses retiring at the end of the year so I know we are hiring for OR nurses. Good luck!

Hi penniv

that is very good to know. I actually spoke to somebody in HR at your hospital. I will be on the lookout for the postings. Hopefully the fact that there will be several retiring soon will improve my chances for being hired even though I don't have OR experience. Thanks again for the info. : )
