I have been an RN for over 8 years but took some time off for health reasons. I am re-entering the workforce and have had some great opportunities come my way. However, about six months ago I was charged with a simple assault (it had to do with my health issues and I was hospitalized at the time. I was not coherent yet I allegedly struck the nurse caring for me in her chest/abdomen). This is NOT anything close to my normal behavior or anything I would condone. Instead of fighting the charges and dragging this embarrassing moment out longer than necessary, I took a plea offer for attempted assault M2. I had to pay court costs of $140 and write a letter of apology to the nurse (which I did both) and my case was discharged. I was also told by the prosecutor that I could have my record expunged in 1 year. I am now waiting on my BCI checks to come back for two separate employers and I'm scared this charge will prevent me from being able to work as an RN. Does anyone know if it will? PS I'm in Ohio.
