So I am about to start my job hunt in Houston and want to ask for advice. Here is a little info on me:
I am a Canadian RN wanting to move to Houston this summer. I have my paper work almost ready. I have 12 years experience....9 of it in Cardio/Tele. I am wanting full time nights. I am wanting to stay in my speciality.
Any advice as to where to start with my resumes? Can you give me advice as to who has the best cardio/cv wards and best places to work?
I know we are not allowed to ask for nurse recruiters names and numbers or emails but if anyone can lend a hand and email me privately I would love it!!!
Thanks in advance.

With your experience, you shouldn't have a problem unless the employer shies away from the residency issue.
Have you decided what part of town you want to live in? That plays a HUGE factor in where you should apply. You don't want to be stuck with a horrendous commute. I know you want to work nights, but in many areas, traffic is always pretty thick and 'rush hour' goes both ways (inbound & outbound). There are some great suburban facilities, no matter what area you choose.
I would suggest renting for a while to give yourself time to explore before buying a house. Houston has some unique issues. We have no zoning - never have, never will; Homeowner Associations (HOAs) fill that role. Be sure to investigate the HOA - find about annual dues, restrictions, etc. We also have municiple utility districts (MUDs) in very unexpected areas. They are independent tax districts that supply water, sewer & sometimes trash pickup. Annual MUD taxes & monthly fees are highly variable - be sure to investigate. Lastly, H-town is riddled with bayous and other types of waterways that can easily flood in one of our (frequent) tropical downpours and we also have evacuation zones based on elevation & vulnerability to (hurricane) storm surge. In some areas, you must buy additional wind storm & flood insurance or you can't get a mortgage.
But, hey - we never have to dig our cars out of a snowbank! I would never want to live anywhere else. We're have fun with our reputation as "not user friendly" - take a look at this site http://www.houstonitsworthit.com/
Thanks for the response HouTx! As for where I want to live it depends on where I work! My husband will be doing his schooling online so it will only be me commuting. Any advice about which hospitals have good cardio wards to work on?
