I am reaching my 6 month mark in my first nursing position. When I first joined this site I was looking advice on how to leave before my first year. I still feel strongly about leaving this dept yet I'm unsure if it'd be better to wait another 6 months then try to internally transfer or continue to pursue outside opportunities.
I have 3 positions that I'm currently pursuing outside of my org. The health department, an outpatient clinic, and urgent care. I didn't feel great after the health dept interview so I'm not anticipating an offer.
The outpatient clinic has been throwing me some red flags such as stressing the physician is particular, its a heavy position, and the manager telling me they didn't think I'd actually show up for the shadow.
Lastly, urgent care is part time. It'd be in pediatrics and when I last interviewed for a hospital position with this org it didn't go well. I was rejected on the spot for failing a math question. I feel this position would give me a similar schedule to hospital, but eventually I'd need to work full time. I could probably transition to a clinic job with them after six months to a year. I feel on edge if peds is for me after failing their math test the first time around.
If I stay in my current role there is no guarantee of a transfer. Should I get a transfer the position might not be in an area I want such as ED, Urgent Care or Clinics. After talking to HR it sounds like my best shot of those would be the ED. I have a feeling it'd be a nightshift despite me preferring first or second.
Would you recommend jumping ship, or hanging on for the rest of the year? I struggle with nights but I really want to like it. I can't see myself staying in this dept for more than a year. If I were to reject or withdraw from these outside opportunities I don't think it'd hurt my future chances, but I'm sure there's always that risk.
