Job advice greatly needed

Hey everyone I was hoping to get some advice. I been working in home care as a LPN for a few years now. I got hired as a per diem for a hospital I been trying to get into for a while. They don't have much requirements just work 2 weekend shifts, 1 major holiday, and 1 minor. They tend to offer per diem nurses full time positions first. I still have my current job and do many hours as is [48]. I would only really have time on Saturdays and Sundays at this hospital. Maybe 4 hour coverage shifts here and there. Would that be bad or should I consider cutting back hours at my home care position to make more openings for the hospital? I know per diem is the first to be call off and isn't always schedule due to the need. My position at my home care job now has been constant for a few years now. I am pretty torn. I wanna excel in this new opportunity but not exactly sure what to do. Any advice/insight is more then welcomed.

Go with your gut! That's what I did. I was kind of stuck in a SNF for a couple of years and it took its toll on me. I applied to several other places and luckily the Dept. of VA picked me up. It's been great since. If you love homehealth, and the pay is good for you then stick with it. But you obviously applied to the hospital for a reason. Make yourself available to the hospital and try it out for several months and see how it goes. If all else fails, you have experience. You can pick up some temp hours somewhere else or apply at a SNF to make up for lost hours.

Yeah your totally right. I do love my job (pediatric homecare) just wanted to see what else out there with the perks of the hospital paying for school. I was picked up by a pediatric hospital which was great for my advancement. I ended up cutting a shift but like you said I can always put it back up if anything. It's not a crazy pay jump but the experience is the plus. Thanks for the advice. Nice to have a outsider person looking in. Have a happy new year=]

There are more advancements in the hospital setting than home care. Take the opportunity now! Getting your foot in the door is half the battle.
