Jacksonville Nursing

U.S.A. Florida

Published

Hello,

I will be relocating to Jacksonville in January of 2016 once I pass the NCLEX. I am looking into graduate nursing programs in the area and have come across a few - Baptist Medical being my first choice. Can someone give me insight on what to expect and what's the best way to obtain a position with Baptist? I am very nervous as I hear it is very difficult to land an employment opportunity as a new nurse. I currently work at Florida Hospital I Orlando and have been there for a little over 5 years. Will this experience help?

Please, any information that you have regarding the Graduate RN Residency Program would be helpful.

All Baptist new hires with less than one year experience must apply through the new grad program now. I did a large portion of my clinicals there, and several of my friends are in the new grad program now. I would apply, but I am moving out of state next year. The application period for the January start is open now, so don't wait. The job market in Jax is brutal, so get a lot of apps in.

Thanks NurseguyDrew. Your response is truly appreciated.

I completed the application yesterday and my plan is to contact human resources sometime today to discuss the position. Do you have any information as to who whose over the program or who would be the best person to contact?

I am moving from the Orlando area and it's such a bummer because I have my foot in the door here at Florida Hospital as this is my place of employment (5 years +) and also the location of my nursing practicum. I feel that it will be difficult or almost impossible to land a position there with no connects. I have been reading post on the GN residency at Baptist and I am becoming discouraged as I see many are having a difficult time landing positions as new nurses and I hear the program is very limited in how many candidates they can accept. Do you know if experience would help? I am not a nurse yet, but I do have experience in working as a tech with different populations (primarily Psych). Also, what would you recommend I do to better my chances of getting in?

Thanks again for your help! :)

Specializes in Orthopedics, Med-Surg.

I don't have much advice on how to make connections or look better on a resume in Jacksonville, but if it makes you feel any better, I was in your shoes when I was just out of nursing school! I did not have any medical experience, and I completed my clinicals and practicum at Florida Hospital Orlando in Fall 2013. I moved full time to Jacksonville in January 2014 and did not find a new grad job until March 2014. Most hospitals and residencies here are looking for BSN-prepared nurses, so if you do not have your BSN already, enrollment in a BSN bridge may look appealing.

Pretty much I'm here to say that even without any connections, it's still possible to get a new grad job in Jacksonville. Good luck!

Thanks lucymalfoy,

I have hope that there is something out there. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find employment as a GN?

I currently hold a Bachelors in another area so I plan to begin an MSN/DNP bridge within a year.

Thanks for your help. I appreciate your response.

Ok so I received a call from Baptist Medical and was invited to interview on December 16. Anyone else hear back from them yet?

Has anyone interviewed for the GN program at Baptist? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated :)

What unit did u apply at Baptist?

On the application, they allowed us to select units that we were interested in. From what I was told, we interview with the units that we selected and go from there.

Did u apply your license to Fl? How long did it take before they approved it?

Hi! They scheduled me for an interview also on Dec 16 1030am at UNF. What time is yours? maybe we can meet there. lol! please shoot me an email, [email protected]. I would love meeting new friends.
