Jacksonville,NC nurses (please respond)

I will graduate next year with my ADN so I am thinking about my job prospects now. I would love to start out in the ICU and heard that Onslow Memorial has an ICU internship program for new grads. The problem is that I heard it is not the best working environment for nurses. Is that true?

Do you know if the Naval hospital hires new grads? If yes, what types of units or floors do they hire new grads into? I would also like to know what their starting rates are. Do they staff through the GS system or agency?

I originally thought of working in Wilmington, New Bern or Greenville but the price of gas has gone absolutely bonkers! Please, please, please help out with any info you have about these two hospitals even it is not concerning ICU. Thanks a lot.

Congrats on graduating, I dont know about Onslow county's ICU program, but I can tell you that Cape Fear Valley in Fayetteville has an ICU program that is excellent. Many of the nurses who have served their two years as new grads from the program, have gone on to CRNA school.

Hi, I don't know if this is too late, but I am finishing my last semester at UNCW. Most of our clinicals are at New Hanover, but we did do our maternal-infant rotation at Onslow Memorial. I thought the staff there overall were much more friendly. The nurse managers from both maternity and nursery came to talk to us on our first day and seemed really pleased to have students working there. It was nice to not be snubbed for a change, even as a "lowly" student. Several people in my class were interested in applying at Onslow after our experience there, despite the drive. I don't know anything about their ICU, though

to work at naval you need at least 1 year experience. Pay is $25 an hour and up. i

would not recommend onslow it has a bad reputation and they can not keep nurses on staff because of doctors, management, and employees attitude toward each other.
