Ivy Tech, GPA, etc.

Does anyone know anything about Ivy Tech's course exclusion policies? I have a couple semesters that I had to pull out of when I was put on bedrest with my last two pregnancies. I ended up with F's on my transcript because of it. They are now hurting my GPA majorly. I was enrolled in the Early Childhood Education program then, so the classes don't apply to Nursing. How hard would it be for me to have those classes excluded from my GPA calculation? Anyone have any experience with this situation? I am an A student, so I hate that it looks like I'm a slacker. I have A's in all 4 classes they look at for the program, but still need to take the TEAS. I'm freaking out about my transcript though!

hi, i'm taking the teas at ivy tech in richmond next month. they are accepting the top 50 score's from what i understand. i do have a 4.0 in all 4 prereqs. and i'm studying the ati manual. hopefully, i'll get in! i do not like math so i'm way worried about that section.

Unfortunatly, GPA scores do not count for Ivy Tech admission to nursing. The only things that count are your co-reqs and TEAS test and you get an extra 3 points if you are in the counties they cover. IE' Indy would cover Marion and a few surrounding counties.

I have a 4.0 GPA also but it means squat. :o(

For the math part- study percents, algebra, ratio/proportion, fractions and adding/subtracting. They also throw in some written questions that require you to really read what exactly what they want to know.

I would suggest reading the question several times. But study that algebra..........my TEAS was full of it!

when i attended my nursing info. session a couple months ago i received a packet stating the admission criteria for both asn and pn programs here in richmond. it says that all prereqs, psychology 101, english 111, a&p 1, and a&p 2 are all given scores worth up to 30pts. toward the teas test. an "a"=30pts, "b"=20pts, and a "c"=10pts. so, you can go into the teas with a maximum of 120pts (4.0 gpa) to combine with your teas score. the max points on the teas test is 100. points for the resident of region (fayette, franklin, rush, union and wayne counties) at the time of admisson is 3 points. applicants scores are totaled, rank ordered (highest to lowest score), and offered admission to the program according to the number of spots available. i do have to disagree with you though, gpa counts for something a little more than "squat" here at ivy tech in richmond. going into the teas testing center with 120 points is a lot better than going in with 40 points which amounts to the lowest acceptable gpa score allowed to enter the nursing program. a letter grade of atleast a "c" must be earned in each prereq.

I meant total GPA. If you had four C's in credit courses that did not count towards nursing like Math..but yet all A's in your 4 co-req's and ended up with a 3.4 GPA, it does not mean anything at any Ivy Tech only that you attained 120 points from your A's.

They don't look at the GPA. The only thing they look at is your TEAS and 4 co-req scores. If thats all the courses you took and have a 4.0 than thats great, but a GPA of 4.0 is not taken into account.

I know this for an absolute fact. Allocating 30 points per A is not the same as a GPA score. GPA is entirely different. Yes, I am aware that a minimum of a C is acceptable for your pre-req's. I have mine all done except for Micro.

Like I mentioned in a previous post..............I know many people who got into the nursing with less than a perfect GPA because they don't look at a total GPA score for admission and I have know people who have a perfect GPA and not get it. It only depends on 2 things...............your score from your co-req's and your teas test results plus the 3 extra points if you happen to be in their region.

PS...............there is no record at my local Ivy Tech or the 3 that I applied to that got 100 on their TEAS. We even had a Math prof apply and she only got a 96 on her TEAS!

same my at ivy tech campus, the nursing instructor's said there has never been a 100% score on the teas. i know i'm not going to change that!

ok, the 120 points are combined with your teas score. this makes up the "adjusted composite percentage" that is used for determination of points for the selection process. here at the richmond campus the minimum scores to be a candidate are:

reading-80%

math-60%

science-60%

english-70%

this gives you your teas score, now they add these 120 or so points to this score and get the acp that is used for the selection process. so, the more points you earn in your co-reqs is a plus right.

The TEAS minimum scores that you quote are universal on all TEAS tests for the nursing programs.

You are correct in saying the more A's ( points) you get on pre-req's , the better your chances of getting in if you also get a good TEAS score.

But this has nothing to do with a GPA score because they only look at those 4 courses. They do not look at the " whole GPA" picture, just the required courses to get in the program and add up the points from the grades of those courses.

FYI...............if there are several candidates with the same scores across the board, then they look at how many co-req's you have done and will give you points on having those completed. ( per the words of three nursing chairs at 3 different Ivy Techs). If you and I were tied to get in and you had one more co-req done than I, then you would get the spot.

Wouldn't it be nice to get 100% on the TEAS??? I wonder if there has ever been anyone get that score??

Oh my gosh...........and science! Study science! Life science, chemical science, scienticic thinking...........some of the questions were on geology! Like helloooooooooo............this patient is complaining of CP...............not really caring where his mineral deposits are! :banghead:

did you use the ati study manual to prepare for the teas? i have checked out like 5 different books from the library and i'm studying the ati, it would be nice to narrow my material down to one book!

Yes, I used the ATI and I loved it. I also found a web site that had practice quizzes on it but after taking the test once and failing, I switched study guides.

ATI, in my opinion, is the most accurate one and there were even some of the same questions in the actual test that were in the study guide.
