I would like to take a moment to encourage others who might be searching here as I once was three years ago. Having a criminal background DOES NOT prevent you from becoming a nurse. Each case is looked at INDIVIDUALLY.
My suggestion, if you have a criminal background, and are looking at becoming a nurse: Contact the school you wish to attend. They will have lots of experience in this area! My school has been exceedingly kind, helpful, and supportive of me. Secondly, contact your state's BON (board of nursing). Let them know what your history is, and they will let you know what type of trouble, if any, you 'might' have with obtaining a license in your state.
Lastly, believe in your self! Don't give up on your dream. Don't EVER let anyone look down upon you. The only time anyone should look down on another is when helping them up (0: I have sat through many a conversation and endured comments from others who said, unkowning of my background, "Huh! So in so has a criminial background.....he/she will NEVER get a license when they graduate...." WRONG ANSWER!!! I am living proof!
So take a deep breath, let peace wash over you, and let today be the day that you tell yourself, I.CAN.DO.THIS.
Blessings to each one of you.
