yes, we do. i can't say it's my most favorite part of the clinical component, but it is useful. there is a lot to be learned, and it's a little nerve wracking b/c our instructor is watching us the entire time. help with clinical skills, no, help with critical thinking, yes.

my school just had a ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon for our new clinical simulation lab. does anyone have one of these labs at their nursing school. my class is extremely excited to start practicing. we have a baby, toddler, and an adult right now in the istan simulators. they act and respond to procedures as if it was a realy person, they breathe and have pulses. its actually quite amazing. i was just wondering if anyone else had one of these at their school, and how it has helped with clinical skills.

Yes, we have one too. I have had very limited exposure to it since I'm only in second quarter. We'll use it more later this year. I have had one pharmacology simulation with it. The monitor shows vital signs, the patients breaths rapidly and lung sounds are wheezy. He can talk and say "I'm having trouble breathing", then we have to decide which drug to give. Pretty Cool!

We have one in our program. The simulation we did for post-partum got so intense it felt real. Our patient was hemorrhaging and we were loosing her. There was one of us on either side of her begging her to stay with us while we were doing procedures to save her life. Funny considering at the beginning we were all making fun of the fact that "she" looked an awful lot like a "he" in a wig.
