Issues in Minority Health

I am in a Masters level course and need to write a paper on Health Disparities. Please answer the following questions to the best of your ability and include the region of the country and the area of nursing you work in. Also please include your years experience as a RN and level of education. Thank you so much.

1) To what extent do you think or see racial/ethnic minorities (as compared to white Americans) a) treated differently in the health care system

b) receive lower quality health care?

2) What are three reasons that you think health care for racial/ethnic minorities may differ?

On a scale of 1-4 (1=very important, 4= not at all important) rate the importance of the following statements in ending inequality in health care.

1)Health care providers (HCP) should work with minority communities regarding how to get the best health care and how to best participate in treatment decisions.

2)HCPs should take classes about how to best communicate and treat patients of different ethnic backgrounds

3)Hospitals should be required to provide interpretors for non English speaking patients 24/7.

4) Doctors, Hospitals and Insurance companies should be penalized for track records of treating minorities differently.

5)We should strive in this country to increase the number of minorities working in health care.

6) Incentives should be provided to HCPs who demonstrate exception care regarding minority patients.
