issues facing CRNAs

What are some of the major issues facing CRNAs today? Is there really a CRNA shortage? I have done a lot of research on the web, but most of what I find are the advantages of the profession. I am currently working as a nurse in a PICU in NYC and and seriously considering pursuing a career in nurse anesthesia. I want to know if there are any disadvantages to the field. Any info would be helpful. Please help me out! Thank you!

There is a shortage, but the reason isn't lack of interest. There's just a shortage of available spots in CRNA schools. It's sad really, but CRNA schools can only take so many students at one time. we need more schools and more slots for CRNA's. I hope this will happen, but at the same time, I also hope students will continue to get a quality education when more slots open up.
