Ok so I am going to graduate with my MSN in nursing education in a few months and I plan on going back to get my FNP as well. So I am currently working on MS unit, I have been trying to transition in house after being on my floor for 18 months, so I can ontain more experience. I have no current plans to start teaching immediately, but would like to work on the floor as a nurse for a few more years to get my feet wet before using my advanced degrees. I emailed HR and asked them if there were going to be any opportunities for any more transition programs in the future. Needless to say I applied and was not chosen( I think it is political). I have a good record and I am knowledgeable, but just wasn't picked.

Anyways in the email I asked if it would be possible to meet with them to discover why I was not being selected and if there would be any opportunities for me to advance my career into a speciality area such as ER or ICU. I also informed them that I would like to stay working for their organization, but I may have to consider other opportunities at other facilities if there will be no opportunities for growth and development for me here. My hosptial is large and has several networking facilities however I accepted my current position with the understanding that HR would help me transition into another role. Other individuals have been able to move twice in the past year and I have not been able to move once. My husband said I shouldn't have said I will have to seek out other opportunities because it sounds like a threat. The way I worded it was just meant to let them know that I am wondering what I can do to be moved into a speciality and I would like to keep working there. It pays well, is close to home and a nice commute. I recently interviewed at a well known facility that was an hour way for a unit that was similar to mine. I am looking for growth and development in nursing. Is it wrong to ask if they can help me transition in house?

I think once you let management or HR feel backed into a corner, they will show you the door. Our DON has been heard to say "Go ahead and leave, I've got 30 more wanting to take your spot right now." Truth is, she's probably correct.

You were open and honest which I respect, but I'm not sure HR will read what you email without putting feelings to your words.

A bug huge congratulations, by the way!:beer::beer::balloons::balloons::beer::
