Is it wise

To study just for the current week's material. Or study a week ahead? What do you suggest. School started on monday and so far, I have allowed myself to only focus on the current week's objectives. Is that a good plan?

What do you suggest? or what are you currently doing?

take that paper writing idea! it has saved my rear on many occasions.

as for the reading... i tried to read ahead of time. i quickly learned that i wouldn't retain the information reading a week in advance. now, i skim through the reading before the lecture and read the whole thing in depth after the lecture. for me, the material makes so much more sense if i do that.

Doing papers in advance is a great idea, although I couldn't make myself do it last semester. I was able to break it up though - force yourself to at least go to the library and do research a few weeks before they're due, then the next week alternate reading an article with reading a chapter for class, and by the time the paper gets closer to being due you've at least got a good idea of what to write. As far as reading in advance...if this is your first week, and you actually have time, read some of next week's material. You probably won't be able to keep it up, but it might make next week a little easier. Once you start having exams every week you won't have time anymore, but no harm in doing a little extra if and only if you have the time.
